That CVE list is incredible!
Giuseppe, assuming the kernels etc are in core/updates_testing, can you please supply the usual package list, then assign this directly to QA.

Comment 3 Giuseppe Ghibò 2025-11-03 21:38:33 CET
Waiting for virtualbox (bug 34408) before, so to avoid overlapping of kmod-virtualbox between a newer kernel and a newer virtualbox (in fact kmod-virtualbox for this kernel has not yet been produced).

BTW, as usual we need a BR for linus flavour too

So you can sit on this until that is done, then assign the several bugs to QA.

Comment 7 Morgan Leijström 2025-11-11 13:04:49 CET
We can anyway start using/testing this kernel without using binary kmods for new VirtualBox (for now either let dkms build the kmod, or do not use VirtualBox), and then test VB with the binary kmods built in this bug after new VB is done in QA.

OK x86_64 desktop on Thinkpad T510, Plasma, nouveau

Surfing internet using Firefox, incl video
Libreoffice, syncthing (binary from upstream), printing, flatpak apps...

OK: suspend-resume

hibernate works but fail to shut off power, instead blinks lamp and user need to hold power button to power off. (like all previus kernels for long time)
restore works perfectly.

files list and kmod-virtualbox package matching 6.6.116 and vbox 7.1.14 will be built after vbox bug will be validated (as current vbox kmod in updates_testing is for kernel 6.6.105 and vbox 7.1.14).

x86_64 desktop kernel OK on ASUS G75V

Same minor problem as always: to have audio, you need to suspend-resume, then it works.

Everything else OK:
Watching internet video in Firefox over wifi
Flatpak Signal
Suspend-resume
Hibernate-restore

i586 OK on laptop Asus E502MA (yes 64 bit machine really)
Their own label say "in search of incredible"
 - to say they actually did try? ;-)

Tested three 32 bit flavours: desktop586, desktop, linus
All works well

-except hibernation (same all flavours):
It hangs with black screen, neither saves session, nor turns off.
User wait a minute or more, then have to hold power button many seconds for powering off, and then next start session is not restored.
So it is not the same as for my T510 in Comment 9.
I do not have time to dig into this.
journal just say it start hibernating

__Works OK:
suspend-resume
Firefox surfing, video over internet (slow)

mga9-64 desktop, server and linus flavour OK on my workstation svarten:
 i7 870, AMD Navi 24 [Radeon RX 6400], Plasma X11.

__Filesystems
/boot: ext4
in LVM using a LUKS encrypted pv: / ext4, /home ext4, swap, swap2
big rust drive: plain ext4

__Clean update
using drakrpm, filtered on updates, testing repo enabled as updates

vt-switching: OK
suspend-resume: OK
hibernate-restore: OK
(above three only tested on desktop flavour)

---

One problem on this system is sluggishness after restore. I have seen it since some months but not sure since when, i rarely hibernate this system. It takes a couple minutes before sddm is ready to log me in, then a couple minutes until i can use apps; mouse cursoe moves but after i click an app in system tray, i takes several seconds until that program get aktivated, some more seconds before it accepts input. Etc. gkrellm say there is almost no activity on CPU nor disk so susyem is not working hard - for some reason it it just lazy not wanting to work...

This is not new for this kernel, so no regression, lets not hold it.
Also, this is the only one of my several systems where i see this.

One other issue at restoring is that the nextcloud client, an appimage, dumps core.

Suspend-resume have neither of these problems.

---

Running various desktop apps like Libreoffice, Thunderbird, Firefox, Gkrellm, Gwenview, Hexchat, java app FriBOK, flatpak (Chromium, Firefox, Signal), nextcloud client Appimage, Dropbox (native), Syncthing (native)...

VirtualBox 7.1.14 host with Guest Windows 7, using locally dkms built kmod on server kernel, and both locally and pre-built kmod binary on desktop kernel:
Tested dynamic window resizing, full size window, USB 2 flash disk, host folder sharing write protected and not, bidirectional clipboard, drag file from Dolphin to Explorer, Internet video in Firefox, Windows update (on fist test)(antivirus)

Tested also WinXP guest on another host (my laptop), dkms built kmod, desktop kernel.

Is there some more function we need to test?

- There are probably a myriad less usual functions we don't test, but something important?

I see we have NFS, LUKS, LVM, Virtualbox w dkms and binary kmod, Various GPU driving: nvidia 470 & 580, nouveau, AMD, Intel

All flavours, and arhitectures x86_64, i586, desktop586

For now it seems everything working, if it's also working the ipv6 I'd say to validate.
Comment 36 Thomas Andrews 2025-11-22 14:14:50 CET
I've been using it for two days now on two very different machines with no issues. Lots of varied browser use, and Network Manager has ipv6 set to "automatic." While I don't know how to prove it, it must have been used somewhere along the line.

Validating. I believe the companion kernel-linus needs a bit more testing before it gets validated, but I will work with that later today.
