Description of problem: cdemu daemon is not registered as service and not visible in MCC Services window, so it cannot be enabled for autostart. Manual start of daemon through console gives: [realgecko@localhost]$ cdemu load 0 some.iso Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:Oops: 0000 [#1] SMP Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:last sysfs file: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu1/cache/index2/shared_cpu_map Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:Process cdemud (pid: 6455, ti=e9bce000 task=e9b28000 task.ti=e9bce000) Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:Stack: Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:Call Trace: Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:Code: 00 00 00 89 f8 0f 85 be 00 00 00 83 c4 6c 5b 5e 5f 5d c3 8b 46 18 b9 20 00 00 00 89 44 24 48 8b 06 8b 40 4c 89 44 24 4c 8b 46 30 <8b> 10 89 54 24 50 8b 50 04 89 54 24 54 8b 50 08 89 54 24 58 8b Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:EIP: [<f3f7bc06>] vhba_ctl_read+0x196/0x2a0 [vhba] SS:ESP 0068:e9bcfeec Message from syslogd@localhost at Nov 26 19:45:16 ... kernel:CR2: 0000000000000000 Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 1.3.0 How reproducible: Steps to Reproduce: 1.Install cdemu-daemon package version 1.3.0 2.Go to MCC - System - Services 3.See that there is no cdemud in list I suspect cdemu is not working at all, cause in MDV 2010 installation of this package added a virtual cd/dvd drive in control center`s local disks tab. In Magia there`s nothing like that avilable.
Hi, thanks for reporting this bug. Assigned to the package maintainer.

CDemu daemon is configured as a dbus service which is automatically started when needed, hence it doesn't appear in the SysV services list. The other issue is a dkms-vhba bug, can you open a separate report about it?
Sure, I will open separate report right now. Will cdemud start automatically if I launch kde-cdemu(graphical front end for daemon)? By the way kde-cdemu package is absent in repos, I`ve already submitted a bug for it :)
Sorry for being unclear. By "other issue" I actually meant the kernel oops which happens when you load an ISO image. And yes, cdemud should start automatically when any frontend tries to use its services.
Created bug report about kernel messages.
I`ve installed kde-cdemu-manager-0.3-2mdv2010.0.i586.rpm. Everything is fine except that cdemu daemon is not started while kde-cdemu is started. You have to start cdemu manually from command line, only after that kde-cdemu is able to contact with daemon. In MDV 2010 cdemu-daemon was available as system service and you could start or stop it through MCC and so it also was available for autostart with system...
Also mounted image is not available for mount in device notifier...

Status: NEW => ASSIGNED
The bug is in kde-cdemu-manager. It should simply try to connect to the cdemu-daemon (so that dbus will start it) instead of checking if it is already running. Closing as WONTFIX as CDEmu will not be readded as a normal service. Discussion regarding kde-cdemu-manager and including it shall continue in bug #3449.
