Are you serious??? How many of these packages do we have to test before anyone can let the updates go???

Comment 4 Herman Viaene 2025-10-23 16:25:28 CEST
Installed and opened darktable with a few pictures. played around with the color settings. seems to work OK.
Comment 5 Herman Viaene 2025-10-23 17:34:17 CEST
Installed godot and imported one of the games Starter Kit FPS. After a llong wait a screen opens with some biljart or pool tables. But I haven't a clie what to do with it. This laptop is anyway way to slow to do any serious tests for this games.

My apologies for the extra work
I can negotiate push what we have in stage 1 & 2, and in bug#34442 when this stage pass QA validation but still remain 2 - 3 stages (as the last stage have only one srpm package I think I can include in "previous" stage after build its requirements).

I not have experience with this kind of updates and perhaps I not handle it as must

I will create a tracker bug and unblock icu bug to allow be pushed

Found another one that I understand and test.
$ qalc

  1 + 2 = 3

> 10€

  10 EUR = €10

> log10(10)

  log10(10) = 1
looks OK.
Comment 8 Herman Viaene 2025-10-24 09:56:29 CEST
qt4-designer: opens OK and I could design a few boxes.
Comment 9 Herman Viaene 2025-10-24 10:38:04 CEST
$ tesseract -l nld 2025.png tekst.txt
Result looks good.

Widelands plays OK more or less. The map generator does not work as annpounced in the dialogues, but an existing campaign starts OK. Real playing is beyond me.

Finally let MCC update all libs that were installed on this laptop. I cann't find anything wrong with it.

Is not mandatory but would be good, if your test not shows issues with current icu73 should not be an issue after/if the security update of icu73 be pushed

Icu72 test

Gnome Text Editor

The following 2 packages are going to be installed:

- gnome-text-editor-44.0-1.1.mga9.x86_64
- lib64editorconfig0-0.12.7-1.mga9.x86_64

1.9MB of additional disk space will be used.

-

tested basic editing, new text file, saving. Working as expected

icu72 test

The following 6 packages are going to be installed:

- gspell-i18n-1.12.1-1.1.mga9.x86_64
- lib64glew2.2-2.2.0-5.mga9.x86_64
- lib64gspell-gir1-1.12.1-1.1.mga9.x86_64
- lib64gspell1_2-1.12.1-1.1.mga9.x86_64
- lib64slopy7.6-7.6-2.1.mga9.x86_64
- slop-7.6-2.1.mga9.x86_64

1.1MB of additional disk space will be used.

Slop works -

Command line is: slop

Then use your mouse to select an area on the screen. slop prints out the coordinates

gspell is a library apparently used by gnome-text-editor. I enabled spell check, it appears to be working for US-English
Comment 19 Brian Rockwell 2025-10-25 16:58:30 CEST
Wideland

To satisfy dependencies, the following package(s) also need to be installed:

- lib64sdl2_image2.0_0-2.6.3-1.mga9.x86_64
- lib64sdl2_ttf2.0_0-2.20.2-1.mga9.x86_64
- widelands-data-1.1-2.1.mga9.noarch
- widelands-music-1.1-2.1.mga9.noarch

482MB of additional disk space will be used.

Started Widelands and started working through the tutorial.

I don't have days to play the whole game, but sounds and tutorial game play seems to work.
Comment 20 Len Lawrence 2025-10-25 21:39:55 CEST
I am completely out of the loop on all this.
Current state:
$ rpm -qa | grep icu72
icu72-data-72.1-1.mga9
lib64icu72-72.1-1.mga9

Is that the correct starting point?

Try with

rpm -qa|grep icu7

icu72-data-72.1-1.mga9
lib64icu72-72.1-1.mga9
icu73-data-73.2-1.mga9
lib64icu73-73.2-1.mga9

Would be weird you don't have icu73 packages, but I guess is possible

if you are using the packages in the list all should require now icu73,
perhaps you don't notice it because right now is not weird have both libraries

You are correct - both sets, -72 and -73 are installed.
I am obviously getting senile at 86 because I have just discovered that all my failed updates over the last few months had not actually failed. I had not realised that qarepo is as far as we need go. Using MageiaUpdate afterwards comes up empty, which had probably been advertised months ago but had managed to slip through the cracks in my brain.

Anyway I have managed to install the whole list down to yaz-5.34 and shall test some of the applications up top. Sorry for the noise. (Time to hand in my cards perhaps?)

took a second snapshop of existing .desktop files.

remove initial desktop files from now existing desktop files.

run each desktop file and check that they launch and if a wizard, cycle between tabs.
try each to .desktop file with simple user interaction : typing characters pressing buttons.

if a game, start the game to opening scene.

Summary : RPG Maker 2000/2003 and EasyRPG games interpreter
Description :
EasyRPG Player is a game interpreter to play RPG Maker 2000, 2003 and
EasyRPG games. It uses liblcf to read RPG Maker game data.

It aims to be a free (as in freedom) cross-platform RPG Maker 2000/2003
interpreter. The main goal is to play all games created with them
as the original game interpreter (RPG_RT) does.

Run "easyrpg-player" in the main directory of a RPG Maker 2000/2003
game project to launch it using EasyRPG.
