OK we need an updated files list then, and good to note in advisory that updated meta-task & mageia-repos is for *-userspace-headers switching between 6.6 kernels and 6.12 backport kernel, see bug 34545 Comment 24.

Something like: "The newer meta-task and mageia-repos packages are required to simplify the correct installation of the kernel-stable-userspace-headers and kernel-userspace-headers development packages."

Can't test the backport kernel, the meta-task is used in other packages in qa stage
So is good I think

hibernate works but fail to shut off power, instead blinks lamp and user need to hold power button to power off. (like all previus kernels for long time)
restore works perfectly.

IIUC you are using both intel and nouveau and the video output is on Intel? Hmmm, so to resume eglinfo goes timeout on 6.6.103, on the same hardware with 6.6.101 it shows immediately a correct result? Or it's somewhat random? What about running glmark2-egl? vkmark? and just to know with 6.12.44?

Can you booh also with nouveau.modeset=0, so to avoid nouveau interference?

I dont know in detail how they are electrically connected.
At install I only configured the Intel. (at least intended to)
This laptop is only used for office stuff plus a GPU fan is broken...

I will check as suggested another day. Plus maybe linus .103

Another issue I notice now, is that after a little use it refuse to suspend - it just return to sddm login both when timing out when user is absent, and if user select in Plasma menu to suspend.

* Dont mind that *

Reason was that there was still processes of chrome and chrome-crashpad handler:
"Freezing user space processes failed after 20.010 seconds (4 tasks refusing to freeze, wq_busy=0)"

That was Flatpak Chrome, so flatpak system is to blame I think, even though it may be triggered by nouveau problems.

Yes.

Totally consistent.

> What about running glmark2-egl? vkmark?

glmark2-egl works always on all kernels incl desktop 6.6.103-1

vkmark, inxi -G, eglinfo:
 fail always on desktop 6.6.103-1
 always works on linus-6.6.103-1 & desktop 6.6.101-1

> And just to know with 6.12.44?

Later...

> Can you boot also with nouveau.modeset=0, so to avoid nouveau interference?

Yes, then I see no problem with 6.6.103-desktop-1.mga9

backport 6.12.44-desktop-1.stable.mga9 works well;
no problem with vkmark, inxi -G, eglinfo.
(and I did not use nouveau.modeset=0 on boot command line)

(only problem is i needed to remove three kernels to make room for its fat initrd... )

ok, so it doesn't crash, it's only eglinfo.

vkmark is for vulkan. There is also 'vulkaninfo'.

note that vkmark has 4 presentation mode: immediate, mailbox, fifo, fiforelaxed that you might select with -p, some mode might not be available and it could fail (it happens also wih a recent nvidia card with drivers 580.xx, so it's not something broken). If one mode doesn't work you might try with other mode using the option -p.

Hi,

With kernel-desktop-6.6.103-1.mga9.x86_64, I have a problem with gkrellm: network interfaces are not shown anymore.

That issue is also reported here: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-8868863.html?sid=c80cfe9685f27cd6d233abab98049cf4 and https://git.srcbox.net/gkrellm/gkrellm/issues/78

Best regards,

Nico.

No new issues with two days of ordinary system usage. As always suspend/resume by shutting the lid works perfectly, but hibernate/restore does not. I often wonder if that has something to do with using rEFInd as my bootloader, but don't know how to determine if my suspicion is correct other than switching to grub, something I'm unwilling to do. (I really LIKE rEFInd.)

I have never used gkrellm. I shall have to look into it.

This appears to be a regression. We could hold version 6.6.103-1 and wait for the upstream patch to fix this issue to be completed, then re-release a 6.6.103-2 here with that patch only, as 6.6.103 seems quite stable based on all the tests done so far.

This actually affects all series, including 6.16.4. The newest available patch, as of https://lore.kernel.org/all/20250903065758.3678537-1-wangzijie1@honor.com works with gkrellm (a temporary test is here: https://copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org/results/ghibo/mageia9-bonus/mageia-9-x86_64/09520653-kernel/), however, according to comments, the patch is still incomplete and lacks some definitions.

Actually there is no patch for this scheduled in the upcoming 6.6.104-rc1, so probably won't go in 6.6.104 final.

BTW, I'm taking a break from pkging for a few weeks, but still follow this.
Comment 38 PC LX 2025-09-04 20:56:56 CEST
I'm experiencing a significant issue with the kernel 6.6.103-desktop-1.mga9.
The issue does not happen with the kernel 6.6.101-desktop-1.mga9.

When the issue is triggered, the Xorg desktop freezes and only the mouse pointer is responsive.

After the issue is triggered I can still ssh to the system and run (most) CLI programs normally, but nvtop hangs, restarting the sddm.service hangs and does not restart, and rebooting the system also hangs.

I have to reboot the host system using the kernel sysrq commands.
For the guest system, I have to force a shutdown/reboot.

This issue occurs on two systems:
- guest system running on a QEMU/KVM with a PCI pass through of a AMD GPU Radeon RX 6500 XT. The desktop environment is LXQt on Xorg.
- host system using an integrated GPU AMD Ryzen 5 5600G with Radeon Graphics. The desktop environment is KDE Plasma on Xorg.

I can trigger the issue very reliably on the guest system just by running Steam and then the native Left4Dead2 game. The desktop will freeze immediately.
On the host system it is kinda random, and the last time I think it was LibreWolf that triggered the issue, but I'm not certain.

Not all programs using OpenGL or Vulkan trigger the issue, for example, glmark2 and vkmark did not trigger the issue.

On the journal I see the following message once the desktop is frozen:
kernel: [drm:amdgpu_job_submit [amdgpu]] *ERROR* Trying to push to a killed entity

Hi,

kernel-desktop-6.6.104-1.mga9.x86_64 solves the issue with gkrellm.

Best regards,

yes gkrellm works,

and the graphics detection issues from comment 22 are gone too;
now inxi -G works, and Flatpak Chromiun launches, and suspend hibernate or shutting down is not hindered.

MGA9-64 server Plasma Wayland on Compaq H000SB
No installation issues apparently. but found out I run into the (age) old issue with grub2 and too many kernels on the laptop. The option for kernel 104 wasn't simply there in the grub menus. Corrected that by starting the classical installer in rescue mode and let that one restore the boot loader.
Rebooted and wifi internet access, access to NFS-shares, audio and video, various document types, all work OK.

Forgot to tell in comment 50 that the system use LVM on CUPS encrypted pv, separate unencrypted /boot, all set up by installer.

@Herman, Comment 51

Problem due to too little space on /boot ?
  Bug 34546 - No detection, avoidance nor message that /boot get full during kernel install.

Did you try to scroll the grub menu? (I did not know that myself once...)

Or some other problem?
Comment 53 Herman Viaene 2025-09-08 14:33:56 CEST
/boot 128.5Mb used on 310Mb
Yes,I checked the Advanced possibilities of the grub menu, not there.
This is an issue I encountered more than once when having a multiboot on the machine (in this case 2 M9 instances) each instance on a different partition. That was while testing alpha and beta-releases.
Comment 54 Morgan Leijström 2025-09-08 18:00:22 CEST
This need to be investigated.

In the Advanced submenu, did you scroll all way down, and then more?
IIRC there is no indication that there are more lines than in current view
 - you have to try to scroll past it to see if there are more... :-/

One glitch: I had one occasion where it failed to shut down:
It sat with black screen for five minutes before shutting off.
At reboot it fsck:ed /home OK
I could not replicate.
I had performed tests as above, incl VirtualBox and then told it to reboot.
It was the desktop kernel at that time, and in case it matters dkms built kmod for VB, and first attempt to hibernate failed due to much used swap, after I shut down some apps it hibernated and restored OK, and I used the desktop briefly before telling it to reboot.

Here are some lines from journal from the failing shutting down:

Do you get this only on hibernation? Was randomly? With previous 101 was getting too? There is a potential fix for amdgpu for 6.6.105, but it's not said it fixes also this.

The fact is that if there is not enough space to generate the initramfs images, IMHO it doesn't report clearly. Does such problems still happens if reinstalling one of the other already validated kernels (any), still available in the repos.

You might want to check whether with this (which contains an extra patch from the upcoming 66.105), is better:

https://download.copr.fedorainfracloud.org/results/ghibo/mageia9-bonus/mageia-9-x86_64/09536784-kernel/

regarding your problem.

Same hardware as comment 34, no installation issues. Used for about 90 minutes of normal morning activity, also a brief try of VirtualBox. No issues noted.

With kernel 6.6.104-desktop-1.mga9, I'm still experiencing the same issue described in comment 38. It just happened again, and with the same trigger as before. Looking in the journal, I see the same error message, and the date/time of the message corresponds to the desktop freezing.

Can you quickly try whether the version 104-2.mga9 as of

https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34594#c63

would fix the problem? If so, we can bump to 6.6.105.

> Was randomly?

Only one so far, and that was while shutting down.
More exactly i told it (by plasma/sddm menu) to reboot.
That was after i had performed the tests including hibernation, and that worked.

Maybe it hit randomly while shutting down regardless of for hibernation or shutdown/reboot.

I have performed both hibernation and reboots with server, desktop (three times) and linus 6.6.104 and only hit this once so far.

So I dont think it is much use to test this with a half baked .105, but wait for a real 105 and give it full tests.

> With previous 101 was getting too?

Never seen before.
(And I did not have time to try .103 on this system until .104 came.)
Neither with backport 6.12.44 or earlier.

Talking about amdgpu, what about the x11-driver-video-amdgpu rpm in testing repo?

Exactly, messages is only in journal, like when i hit it:
 cp: error writing '/boot/initrd-6.12.39-desktop-1.stable.mga9.img': No space left on device

From Bug 34546 - No detection, avoidance nor message that /boot get full during kernel install.

In the quick tests I made, the issue seems resolved, but I'm now seeing an unusual number of crashes.
I'm don't know if the crashes have something do do with the previous issues or if it is something else.
Have work to do now so I will do some more testing later.

I think something is wrong in the packages list:
xtables-addons-kernel-6.6.105-server-1.mga9-3.24-85.mga9.x86_64.rpm not found in  repos.
But when I look in MCC, I see there a package xtables-addons-kernel-6.6.104-server-1.mga9-3.24-85.mga9.x86_64.rpm.
Trying to follow the logic in the naming, I would expect to find xtables-addons-kernel-6.6.105-server-1.mga9-3.24-86.mga9.x86_64.rpm, but that isn't there either.

Installed and tested without issue.

Tested on a QEMU/KVM VM with PCI GPU pass through.

Tested:
- Steam (native);
- Steam games (native and Windows/Proton);
- Epic Games (Windows games using Wine);
- Non Steam games (e.g. OpenTTD, Warzone2100);
- OpenGL;
- Vulkan;
- VA-API;
- OpenCL.

Those were quick tests as I do not have much time now, but all seems OK, including the issue with the AMD GPU (see comment 38) that seems resolved.

Host System: See comment 85.

Sorry, did not paste the link , this is the report
https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34604
Comment 95 Morgan Leijström 2025-09-14 21:51:41 CEST
Bug 34604 seem to indicate no regression from our previously released kernel update 6.6.101. It is a regression from earlier kernels to .101.
So i think it do not hinder releasing .105.
Question also is if it it a problem in kernel or simply a compatibility issue with old adb.

---

I am running .105 on all systems i have reported on here and found no regression so far, but have not had time to report and have not tried Virtualbox yet (was OK on .104 though)

Try to check RAM, S.M.A.R.T. report of disks and NVMe firmware releases if you had one, and monitor system temps. Also verify the rpm signatures of installed packages, e.g. rpm -Va, so to check disks are not misreading.

I agree, I find a solution (the cause could be HDD) to my issue with Plasma Wayland and the Waydroid issue is upstream issue https://github.com/waydroid/waydroid/issues/1319

For the moment, I have to backup my information and can't make 64b testing again :S
