First update through MCC resulted in error-message: "A fatal error occurred: HAL daemon (hald) is not running or not ready." After unchecking CD-ROM as update-repository, problem solved.
Hello, thanks for the bug report. What release have you installed ? livecd kde, gnome, dvd ? If it's an dvd, please attach the file /root/drakx/report.bug.gz On which desktop have you see this fatal error ? Can you reproduce ?

The same problem has been observed by several other users installing the iso dvd that became available this morning. My proper replies to the questions to isodora: - from an iso dvd, kde install - I did not run urpmi from a desktop, but from a login console - attaching report.bug.gz from my system (attachment 1121 [details]) - maybe yet another one helps Plus a comment made in the (duplicate) bugzilla 3473 report: hald is not only not running, but hal has not been installed

Installed Mageia 2 alpha1 32bit DVD.iso Using KDE-desktop-environment. Could reproduce when enabling CD-ROM as update-repository through MCC Attached report.bug.gz
I got this with a DVD install. The CDROM was not marked as an update. When I removed the CDROM totally, rpmdrake "hung." I got around it by copying the HAL RPM and its dependencies to my home directory and running "rpm -Uvh *.rpm" from there.

Reproduced with Mga2 Alpha2 x86_64 minimal installation. Can't install software with urpmi, because of "hald isn't running or ready"

hal is NOT installed, urpmi unusable
Created attachment 1269 [details] report.bug.gz for Mageia 2 Alpha 2 Same problem for Alpha 2. Attached a bug report.

Same problem on Alpha 3. I´m testing Alpha 3 on virtualbox. If is dvd added as source for rpms. Urpmi sending this "A fatal error occurred: HAL daemon (hald) is not running or not ready." I mean problem is with automatic mount in urpmi. For solution this problem you must change dependencies from hal to udev(udisks).

I can also confirm this is a problem with alpha 3 Fresh install on x86_64 with a DVD

In a response to a post of mine on the forum, a member suggests that this bug can be resolved by removing the DVD from the media manager. But I am pretty sure I did this and it did not resolve the problem. I have since reinstalled Mageia1 on the system, so I can't test this. Can anyone else try and report back?
