With the Mageia 1 iso, od -N 512 -x mageia-dvd-1-i586.iso|grep aa55 will show that there is a valid mbr signature in the first block. $ od -N 512 -x Mageia-2-alpha1-i586-DVD.iso 0000000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 0000 * 0001000 The first 512 bytes are all hex zero.

As a workaround, you can use isohybrid (in the rpm syslinux)

(In reply to comment #1) > As a workaround, you can use isohybrid (in the rpm syslinux) Thanks. After modifying the iso image using the isohybrid command, and then copying the modified iso to a usb stick, I can now boot the image from the stick.
Next set of dvd should be fixed. Anne on the pad: "DVDs fixed - isohybrid was commented in code...." Feel free to close if it's ok
Closing as it was missing in previous bcd code. Confirmed by testers on last isos
