crashes or freeze? coredumpctl shows something? Did you have some special hw flag in /etc/default/grub?

Windows start to close, any access to fs , etc very weird could be hardware issue
but with desktop kernel never see that

Clean installation and reboot after `dracut -f`.

The desktop came up with NFS shares in place, falkon, thunderbird and firefox running. Printed off two copies of a recipe on HP Smart Tank. gkrellm shows all 16 cores working with glmark2 and four stress tests running including disk amd RAM i/o. Virtualbox launched a 64-bit client OK. Played kmahjongg. Youtube videos in firefox with bluetooth sound OK. Watched TV program talking about Youtube, using vlc. Looks like the desktop is working as usual here. Letting this run.

Comment 15 Morgan Leijström 2025-04-28 16:56:23 CEST
FAIL: suspend and hibernation problems on my Thinkpad T510.

(There are often quirks on that machine... so question is should we care, especially in linus kernel few use and lots of other hardware also fail suspend and/or hibernation?)

Same tests as for desktop kernel 6.6.88-3 per Bug 34189 Comment 72.
(and all same other packages from testing installed as described there)

Difference is, that with this linus kernel, if i have been playing video in Firefox, the suspend and hibernation processes stops dead before shutting down.
Power lamp firmly on, no disk activity, black screen, do not respond even to REISUB.
Regarding hibernation it seem not to perform saving, so it is hanging before that step.

Last lines saved in journal:

Suspend:
apr 28 15:13:39 localhost systemd[1]: Reached target sleep.target.
apr 28 15:13:39 localhost systemd[1]: Starting systemd-suspend.service...
apr 28 15:13:39 localhost systemd-sleep[268611]: Entering sleep state 'suspend'...
apr 28 15:13:39 localhost kernel: PM: suspend entry (deep)

Hibernate:
apr 28 15:21:44 localhost systemd[1]: Reached target sleep.target.
apr 28 15:21:44 localhost systemd[1]: Starting systemd-hibernate.service...
apr 28 15:21:44 localhost systemd-sleep[16439]: Entering sleep state 'hibernate'...
apr 28 15:21:44 localhost kernel: PM: hibernation: hibernation entry

Repeated twice failures in linus 6.6.88-1, but twice success on desktop 6.6.88-3

At least suspend succeeded on linus once when I had not played a video in Firefox.

Advanced Micro Devices [AMD/ATI] Phoenix1 driver: amdgpu
Realtek RTL8125 2.5GbE driver: r8169
Memory: total: 52 GiB

No installation problems. Reboot to Mate. Common desktop applications work well.
Switched to GNOME Classic on Wayland and things continued to run smoothly.
Switched to Plasma X11 - mplayer and vlc video fine. Had to install blueman to identify external audio devices. The resident application only lists MAC addresses. Sound and video OK. NFS shares mounted.

This is a relatively new machine, without VirtualBox. Installed dkms-virtualbox OK then virtualbox.
Back to Mate.
Tried to install a 64-bit mga9 virtual machine and failed at the formatting stage with about 70 GB allocated for ESP, /, swap and /home. Any attempt to format the virtual disk resulted in "Failed to add partition 2". Stuck in the loop at that point.

In reply to Len Lawrence in comment #16:

Senility strikes again! Discovered that a lot of development files were missing so were not likely to be updated (new hardware, largely unpopulated).
Created a new virtual machine using the desktop kernel on a different partition. Rebooted to the linus kernel and launched mga9 in virtualbox without any problem.
