Comment 1 Marja Van Waes 2012-01-15 20:49:09 CET
In updated Mageia 1 on a i586 laptop with an intel 810 video chip, with a freshly installed supertuxkart, after turning off Animated Karts and Animated Effects and Scenery (I didn't dare to leave that turned on, with such a fantastic video chip), I choose full screen, played a game and closed it, but with me it didn't crash.

Salim, if this bug is still valid, can you please start supertuxkart from your konsole with:

$ supertuxkart 2>&1 | tee tuxkartoutput.txt

and attach that file to this bug report (or if it is just a few lines, copy it in a comment)?

Comment 3 Marja Van Waes 2012-01-16 06:32:32 CET
Thanks, Salim :)

Can you please start reading https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Debugging_software_crashes

cc'ing KDE maintainer, too

@ Damien
@ John

I suppose if Salim boots into runlevel 3, there is a way to start KDE within gdb from there, I just don't know that way :/

Which debug packages should Salim install at least, apart from supertuxkart-debug, and gdb itself?
kdebase4-workspace-debug and kdebase4-runtime-debug? What else?

Comment 4 John Balcaen 2012-01-17 02:45:45 CET
I'm not able to reproduce here with a mageia 1 i586 up to date.
My graphic card is (according to lspcidrake -v ) :

unknown         : Intel Corporation|N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller [DISPLAY_OTHER] (vendor:8086 device:a012 subv:1043 subd:83ac)
Card:Intel 810 and later: Intel Corporation|N10 Family Integrated Graphics Controller [DISPLAY_VGA] (vendor:8086 device:a011 subv:1043 subd:83ac)

It would be nice to have the Xorg.log too because the crash could be there too (it should be /var/log/Xorg.0.log ).
The .xsession-errors could be useful too (you need to copy it from tty1 since it's going to be reset once you logged again after the crash of the desktop).

Are you also able to reproduce this crash under another de ? (such as xfce/gnome)

You should install thoses -debug package for supertuxkart :

@ Salim

Thanks for the log :)
Can you please do the following:

* generate the crash
* back in KDM, switch to tty1 with ctrl + alt + F1
* login as yourself
* then give the following commands
* cp .xsession-errors xsession-errors
* cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log Xorglog
* startx (that should take you back to KDE)
* attach the files xsession-errors and Xorglog from your home directory to this report.

@ Salim

Thanks again :)

in the xsession-errors,just before everything goes wrong, I read:
Error messages and other text output will be logged to
/home/mageia/.config/supertuxkart/stdout.log and
/home/mageia/.config/supertuxkart/stderr.log

Can you copy those files and attach them, too, please?

Hmm, there is less in them than I had hoped, stderr.log is empty and stdout.log only contains the line:

startMusic : m_normal_filename=</usr/share/games/supertuxkart//data//music/MayDayMayhem.ogg>, gain=0.7

well, according to xsession-errors it all starts with:
kmix: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit4: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit4: sending SIGHUP to children.
akonadi_nepomuk_contact_feeder: Fatal IO error: client killed
akonadi_maildir_resource: Fatal IO error: client killed
bluedevil-monolithic: Fatal IO error: client killed
klauncher: Exiting on signal 1
kdeinit4: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit4: sending SIGHUP to children.
kdeinit4: sending SIGTERM to children.
kdeinit4: Exit.
ProcessControl: Application '/usr/bin/akonadi_maildir_resource' returned with exit code 1 (Unknown error)
kglobalaccel: Fatal IO error: client killed
akonadi_maildispatcher_agent: Fatal IO error: client killed
KCrash: Application 'ksmserver' crashing...
and so on

@ KDE-guys

can one of you please look into this?

I just tried on an up to date cauldron and the game didn't crash on fullscreen using default configuration.

This is my video card:

Card:Intel 810 and later: Intel Corporation|2nd Generation Core Processor Family Integrated Graphics Controller [DISPLAY_VGA] (rev: 09)

@Salim: have you tried on mga 2 beeta 2 ?
Comment 15 salim salim 2012-03-29 21:15:45 CEST
i am now using beta 2

there is no crash if i quit from the game in fullscreen mode

but

if i do that

the responding for that command will not fully work

i found that even when the screen return to the desktop after quitting from fullscreen

and try to click on any icons in it

the screen will return to the game fullscreen mode

and sometimes you can re-press the quit button again

and return another time to desktop without any problem

but some times it will not work

so i will be forced to use

CTRL + ALT + F2

I can't reproduce that. For me it quits to the desktop every time. The only issue I see is that if the game resolution is different from your desktop resolution then the desktop panel won't resize to it's original size and there will be some painting issues with the icons on the panel, but this is a different issue from KDE, not this game.

This message is a reminder that Mageia 1 is nearing its end of life.
In approximately 25 days from now, Mageia will stop maintaining and issuing
updates for Mageia 1. At that time this bug will be closed as WONTFIX (EOL) if it
remains open with a Mageia 'version' of '1'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you plan to
fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' to a later
Mageia version prior to Mageia 1's end of life.

Bug Reporter: Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we may not
be able to fix it before Mageia 1 is end of life. If you would still like to see
this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version of Mageia,
you are encouraged to click on "Version" and change it against that version
of Mageia.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's lifetime,
sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a more recent Mageia
release includes newer upstream software that fixes bugs or makes them obsolete.
