In this kernel also see the

I should worry about the health of the NTFS hdd?

Using a few days incl microcode bug 33560 comment 2,
where you find hardware specs.

As seen there I have swithed from nvidia which got more
and more frequent issues, probably hardware failure, to AMD.
Since then everything is smooth :)

Possible issue with this kernel update.

On my workstation (referred in comment 15) I experienced the system freezing and then self rebooting.

Will attach the last relevant journal entries.

At the time, I had left the system alone to go do other things and when I returned, the system was
frozen. There was no mouse or keyboard response. When I though of using ssh to see if the system was
still alive under the graphical desktop, it self rebooted.

About an hour and half before I installed clamav and was running tests on it, by scanning the file
system. Don't know if the scan was still ongoing or if it was a cause of the system freezing.

I don't know if this is an issue with the kernel or with the hardware but freezes are very very rare
on this system.

Also, the sensors report, taken from the journal, 4 minutes before the last journal entries do no
show any unusual or even particularly high temperatures.

mga9-32 OK practically *) on Thinkpad T43, 1GB RAM
Dualboot MSWXP/mga9 (upgraded from mga8)

Flavours tested: desktop

Filesystems:
spinning rust ATA drive on mainboard SATA bridge interface chip
(mainboard got designed before SATA drives were common. stupid.)
3 physical partitions:
WindowsXP on NTFS (readable on mageia)
two pv for a LVM vg (possible to change one to i.e FAT32 still keep mga9)
LVM is unencrypted, contain 3 lv: /, /home, swap

OK: LXDE, wifi, Firefox (writing this), gkrellm... no regression noted.

Comment 36 Giuseppe Ghibò 2024-09-18 22:53:54 CEST
The logs in the 32bit pti_clone_pgtable might be due to a fix in pti_clone_pgtable for CVE-2024-44965.

I think it's ok for a release (and -linus too). Apparently seems mostly OK on every system, apart the one with suspect reboot after a clamav update (maybe a memory exaustion due to clamav update that caused crashing on the driver of the AMD graphics card)?

No report of a recurrence, but then it's only been 2-3 days. In the old days the kernel maintainer decided when there had been enough tests, so we will follow that lead.

Validating.
