Description Giuseppe Ghibò 2024-07-23 16:56:02 CEST
In the mga9 initial pulseaudio release the newer alsa-ucm were patchset were left out because were causing problems; now they are fixed so they are backported from 17.0 upstream to current version. This is also improving usage with audio profiles and bluetooth usage and some other bug like #31146. Changelog is here:

I think you are using pipewire+wireplumber as sound system, you should test the packages in bug#33424

No, MCC only offers pulseaudio as a sound server.

The script loads all packages from a intermediate local repo, as qarepo does. It installs or upgrades only packages form the package list.

Strange.
See https://doc.mageia.org/mcc/9/en/content/mcc-hardware.html#draksound

There is a mismatch in the files list, lib64wireplumber-devel-0.4.17-1.mga9
lib64wireplumber-gir0.4-0.4.17-1.mga9 should be removed.

That's a feature we introduced with Angelo Naselli's draksound code: when pipewire is not available in the media repo, draksound don't show it for switching. This was mainly added for the liveCD or the CD/DVD installer which might not have any media sources at all or have some tool/package removed.

You can easily verify this using 'mv /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg /etc/urpmi/urpmi.cfg.bak' and then run draksound.
Comment 18 Morgan Leijström 2024-07-26 16:44:00 CEST
So Ulrich, you need to configure medias for urpmi.
(I guess you only have for DNF?)

Opened: Bug 33441 - MCC manual: Write that draksound do not show Pipewire as alternative if not available in configured repositories.

Indeed that's not a bug, but a feature, written on purpose.

Ah, I missed you mean to fix the manual. OK.

That's true but if the user not have something that requires lib64wireplumber0 in his system the update not complain about that, what is a few weird.

Ulrich are you performing an update or trying to install all the packages?
if is a regular update please add the packages in bug#33424

Intel Corporation 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family High Definition Audio Controller [8086:1e20] (rev 04)

KDE Plasma x86_64
Installed the packages without lib64wireplumber*
No regression found.

@Morgan:
I tested the instructions from the wiki page Pipewire - Manual method.

I had to install missing wireplumber
# dnf install wireplumber --allowerasing
which would then erase pipewire-media-session.
Sound works thereafter.

Comment 33 Adelson Oliveira 2024-08-04 03:47:02 CEST
I'm adhefe, I've posted topic 15425 at forums.mageia.org.
Pulseaudio was OK till the last updates. Now, no sound whatsoever. Neither kmix says there is anything.

Attempts to start pulseaudio returns "connection refused".

waiting for instructions. Tomorrow afternoon, as suggested, i'll switch back to pulseaudio (now using pipewire with wireplumber).

Meanwhile, this is the list of packages installed with pulseaudio (after installing pipewire):

$ rpm -qa|grep pulseaudio
lib64kf5pulseaudioqt_3-1.3-3.mga9
pulseaudio-client-config-16.1-17.mga9
lib64pulseaudio0-16.1-17.mga9
pulseaudio-utils-16.1-17.mga9
pipewire-pulseaudio-0.3.85-5.mga9

and this is list of pipewire packages:

$ rpm -qa|grep -i pipewire
kpipewire-5.27.10-1.mga9
lib64kpipewire5-5.27.10-1.mga9
lib64kpipewiredmabuf5-5.27.10-1.mga9

Before switching back to pulseaudio in the laptop with problems, let me report that two other computers with mageia 9 (also up to date) have sound.

Both has,

$ rpm -qa|grep -i pulseaudio
lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.2.7.1-2.mga9
task-pulseaudio-9-1.mga9
lib64kf5pulseaudioqt_3-1.3-3.mga9

and

$ lsmod|grep audio
snd_usb_audio         434176  3

respectively.

The contents of .local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log are:

in the first computer:

/etc/menu.d/icewm: linha 16: /home/adelson/.icewm/menu: Arquivo ou diretório inexistente

and the other one,

kdeinit5_wrapper: Warning: connect(/run/user/1000/kdeinit5__0) failed: : No such file or directory
Error: Can not contact kdeinit5!
startkde: Starting up...
startkde: Shutting down...

This was on two computers with sound and with pulseaudio.

Now I'm going to switch back to pulseaudio in the laptop with pipewire.
Comment 35 Adelson Oliveira 2024-08-04 17:59:46 CEST
I've just switched back to pulseaudio and reboot. Surprisingly, the sound is now OK. The file .local/share/sddm/xorg-session.log is empty as it was when pipewire was loaded.

For completeness, I now have in the laptop that presented the problem:

$ rpm -qa|grep pulseaudio
lib64kf5pulseaudioqt_3-1.3-3.mga9
pulseaudio-client-config-16.1-17.mga9
lib64pulseaudio0-16.1-17.mga9
pulseaudio-utils-16.1-17.mga9
pulseaudio-16.1-17.mga9
lib64alsa-plugins-pulseaudio-1.2.7.1-2.mga9
pulseaudio-module-zeroconf-16.1-17.mga9
pulseaudio-module-x11-16.1-17.mga9
pulseaudio-module-gsettings-16.1-17.mga9
task-pulseaudio-9-1.mga9

and

$ lsmod|grep audio
ledtrig_audio          12288  2 snd_hda_codec_generic,asus_wmi

If it may be of any help, just after switching to pulseaudio but before rebooting the sound was off.

I'll keep pulseaudio and will report any problem I see.

Thanks for the help!
Comment 36 Adelson Oliveira 2024-08-04 18:07:44 CEST
When I reported the problem at the forum and here I had already rebooted the system many times with no luck. The only way I got the sound back was installing Pipewire.

It seems that the sequence Pipewire installation + switching back to Pulseaudio made an unknown change that solved the problem.

Once more, thanks.
