Description Thomas Andrews 2024-02-21 17:52:26 CET
Description of problem:

In Bug 32206 we updated Kodi to version 20.2, but missed the tainted version. Our tainted version of Kodi is still 20.1.
Comment 1 Thomas Andrews 2024-02-21 17:54:51 CET
Assigning to the developer who updated Kodi to 20.2 in Bug 32206.

> Assigning to the developer who updated Kodi to 20.2 in Bug 32206.

The issue is the tainted src.rpm was not in the advisory because was not listed by packager in the bug

kodi-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.src.rpm 2023-08-31 14:21

We used to reopen the original bug and ask to sysadmins to move the missing packages so I will do that

MGA9-64 Plasma, AMD Phenom II 910, AMD HD 8490 graphics. I don't use this system for much beyond testing for QA.

I'm running into trouble here.

This is the system I used to test the Kodi core version four months ago, and it seemed to work then. Since then we've had kernel and kf5 updates, and now Kodi doesn't want to show some video, with the core packages before this update, or with the tainted packages after it.

Audio works, but it isn't displaying the video for mp4 files (h.264 codec), or some iptv channels that it did display before. It displays static images OK. Some iptv channels display OK, but they are very low resolution channels. 720p channels that displayed before only have audio now.

Videos play OK with vlc.

This system was a Mageia 8 system until the previous Kodi test, and had been updated through the mgaapplet. The configuration was carried over from Mageia 8.

I shall have to try a fresh install on some other hardware.
Comment 5 Thomas Andrews 2024-02-22 00:06:16 CET
I thought it odd that the x86_64 list was shorter than the i586 list, so I used "kodi*" in qarepo, and got this:

kodi-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm
kodi-addon-devel-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm
kodi-eventclient-kodi-send-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm
kodi-eventclient-ps3-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm
kodi-eventclient-wiiremote-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm
kodi-eventclients-common-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm
kodi-firewalld-services-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.noarch.rpm
kodi-python-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.noarch.rpm
kodi-python-bt-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.noarch.rpm
kodi-python-xbmcclient-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.noarch.rpm
kodi-python-zeroconf-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.noarch.rpm
kodi-texturepacker-20.2-1.mga9.tainted.x86_64.rpm

However, it did not actually matter with my test, because I don't use any of the tainted packages other than kodi itself.

MGA9-64 Plasma, i5-7500, Nvidia Quadro K620 graphics (nvidia-current driver), wired Internet.

This was originally a clean install from the Mageia 9 netinstall iso, so there wouldn't be any leftover configurations from Mageia 8 to get in the way.

I installed the core version of Kodi plus dependencies, and also kodi-pvr-iptvsimple. Then I ran Kodi, and set up a video playlist and the the iptvsimple pvr add-on. Both worked as expected. All videos played. Some TV channels would not play because they were "geo-blocked," and others failed for unknown reasons, but most of the channels I tried played correctly without issue.

Then I updated to tainted packages, with only kodi itsef being offered for update. I tried the same things again, with the same results.

Since the issue I had with the AMD-based hardware existed both before and after the update to the tainted package, it is not a new regression introduced by it. I will try renaming the Kodi config file, as well as removing Kodi and re-installing it. There might also be issues with old mga8 orphans that should be removed. If the issue remains after my investigation, I will file a new bug.

Giving this an OK, and validating.
