This is a fresh install with Mageia 9 and the GNOME desktop has been chosen. However the boot process ends shortly before the login screen should appear. boot.log: Starting ModemManager.service... [ OK ] Started network.service. [ OK ] Started udisks2.service. [ OK ] Started ModemManager.service. [ OK ] Started network-up.service. [ OK ] Reached target network.target. [ OK ] Reached target network-online.target. [ OK ] Reached target nss-lookup.target. Starting shorewall.service... Starting systemd-user-sessions.service... [ OK ] Finished systemd-user-sessions.service. [ OK ] Started crond.service. Starting gdm.service... Starting plymouth-quit-wait.service... [ OK ] Started gdm.service. Then I have to turn the computer off, because it never continues. The screen seems to have frozen there. I have also done an update installation afterwards and all fresh packages have been added from the internet. But still the same problem.
See if https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_9_Errata#GNOME_and_Wayland provides a valid workaround.

I have now made a fresh installation with other desktop environments. After the restart with the newly installed Mageia 9 I added the GNOME desktop package. After the next restart I could successfully login with a GNOME desktop. However GDM is not used now.
