Did you verify the checksum of the downloaded ISO?

According this old thread a similar issue was caused by a broken downloaded ISO…

As far i can remember yes, because this was used in september 2023 to install Mageia9.

You mean you checked and already used the iso, but just burnt the disc recently  ?

Yes, i used the ISO in september to install Mageia 9. As i still have a problem with the configuration of the keyboard (BE) (only characters and numbers, no special signs), maybe a reinstall could solve the problem. Now, i am completely blocked! The disc has been burnt in september 2023!

Hi Norbert,

Can you try to install again, and when, after partitioning the disks, you hit the same problem again, then please: 

* switch to tty2 (by pressing Ctrl-Alt-F2) 
* plug a USB key/stick and type:
                                 bug
* then press Enter. 

It will put report.bug on the USB key. If the file is too large to attach, then please compress it with xz: 
                            xz report.bug

* Attach the resulting report.bug.xz to this bug report.

If the "bug" command fails, try again with e.g (if your USB-key is on /dev/sdb): bug /dev/sdb1. Adjust the command if needed. You can find, by first running dmesg whether your USB key is on e.g. "/dev/sdb", "/dev/sdc" or "/dev/sdd", etc.

There seems to be lots of errors accessing the DVD.
Does the disc work on a other machine ?
Did you check the integrity of the DVD ( dd if=/dev/sr0|md5sum ) ?

Thanks for having spotted that. Regardless of whether the DVD or the DVD drive is broken, this isn't an issue that can be solved by creating new ISOs, so doesn't count as a valid bug.

@ Norbert

If needed, you can still ask for help in the forums. For the forums, this is a valid issue, because the forums are there to help each other with anything related to using Mageia, including problems with hardware.

Btw, Norbert, you might want to try dumping the ISO on a USB-key and using that for installation.

The DVD can be read on another machine without problems (DVD-reader only).
It took already my attention that some CD/DVD could not be read on the CD/DVD reader/writer and now checking on another machine, there is no problem at all.
I have a live version (Mageia-9-live-Xfce-i586) on a usb stick, but bootable USB are not recognized by the machine.

Anyhow thanks for the help!

I had a machine of which I thought that it didn't allow me to boot from a USB device, because that option wasn't in the BIOS where you set the order of bootable devices.
However, after someone here (Dave Hodgins, IIRC) stressed that it should really be possible, I tried again, after _first_ plugging in the key, then starting the computer and then entering the BIOS. The USB-key had appeared in the list and I could set it to be the first device from which booting should be tried. After that, installing from USB went flawlessly.

Also, the dvd burner is able to run the installer, so starting grub from there, and then chaining to the usb drive may work.

Try clean the lens of the DVD drive, but that sound like your drive is starting to fail
If you have a working mageia 8 system it is possible to extract some files from the mageia 9 classic iso and add to grub to boot, this will boot in a mode similar to netinstall images, tell me if you are interested to try to make a deep explanation.

Or create a *CD* with netinstaller to boot on, using internet for the rest.

A the netinstaller is smaller, less risk of failing, also the CD is optically more robust reading than DVD.

Finally, i found the problem. Checking the DVD writer gave as result that nothing could be read anymore not even a classic CD (installer disks of the motherboard).
So i tried a spare DVD writer with a brand new IDE cable (which i found in the box of my motherboard). And this worked without any problem. I did use the extra https on install as an extra next to the DVD. Yes, it is a good idea to use a bootable cd with netinstaller. So problem solved!
