Description Pierre THOMAS 2023-11-08 07:49:36 CET
With my desktop PC, I use a CX510de LEXMARK printer connected by USB. It is the default printer.
The printer is also available through my home network for other devices.
Everything was OK with Mageia 8.
Now, with Mageia 9 :
    • When I define the USB printer as the default printer, the mark indicating the default printer is not displayed on the printer icon.
    • It seems anyway OK : in the menu, the line Define by default is grey / not available. This line is available for the network printer.
    • When I want to print a document, it is the network printer which automatically selected : it must be the default printer = the USB printer.

This is a bug !!

Pierre

How reproducible: ???

I have to choose the USB printer for each document to print.
The scanner is OK through the USB connection.

Is this the only printer configured?

There are problems selecting default printer when there are more than one, but it have workaround:
Bug 32270 - Issues setting default printer

So maybe you can configure a second printer (tip: install the wonderful boomaga virtual intermediate printer), and then it works to select default.

Also see https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Mageia_9_Errata#Printing

That said, I too do not see default icon markings on the printer in MCC, but yes looking at which one have "Set as default" greyed out tells that...

Hello,

I think the marking check is due to some missing icon in the themes...

Running the tool with --debug parameter show this message:"No emblem-default icon available", so i think there is "just" a missing file somewhere, as the heart icon is displayed when defining as personal printer.

Bonjour,

I had a problem for selecting the default printer, it is now solved.

https://www.mageialinux-online.org/forum/topic-30891.php#m318269

I think I modified the name of the printer after the configuration was done ... (???).
My only problem now is that the small icon marking the default printer is not displayed in CCM/Matériel. This does not worry me !

We should create a new bug for the missing icon, per Comment 3

And it seems the bug *here* is that renaming do not work as it should.

This looks to me a variation of bug 32270 (thanks Morgan for finding that, I knew we had a similar bug already).
I did not see the relevance of the link given in comment 4.

Thank you Nicolas for your detective work re an icon.

This needs more explanation.
Pierre wrote "I think I modified the name of the printer after the configuration was done."
The bug description makes no reference to this renaming, whether the problem existed before that, whether renaming it to its original form changes anything. Whether the visible printer showed its original or new name etc. We do not know the sequence of events.
Let sleeping dogs lie! Comment 4 says "it is now solved". Solved - Works.

If this can be adequately defined, certainly.
