Thanks, Nico. Looks all good. Tested on one document I had worked on earlier this year and created a second, short one, with 4 different languages. Was able to change the language for both documents with no problems. Closing this and will close the upstream report... Roy

Mga9-64 OK for me in small use, edited an odt document, pdf exported. Plasma, nvidia-current, Intel i7-870
MGA9-64 Xfce on Acer Aspire 5253. Installed languages english, dutch, french and german, no problems. Tested in the following way: Opened an existing document, written and settings and spelling check in dutch, all OK. Opened a new document, set the language to english. Write a sentence in english and spelling check found no issues. Wrote - without changing anything else - a second sentence with dutch words and got spelling indicated for all specific dutch words. Is OK. Copied a piec of text (just some words, not a complete paragraph, from the first dutch document, using Ctrl-C and pasted into the second document using Ctrl-V. This piece to text brought its own language setting with it and did not show any spelling faults. LO behaved normally , no hanging. Considering other tests above, giving the OK. BTW, this version does not improve the existing issue with LO Base reports.

On Foolishness, my Dell Inspiron 5100, 32-bit P4,radeon RV200 graphics, MGA9-32 Xfce using the desktop kernel. No installation issues. Working with English only, as that is the only language I know. (Forgot all my high school Spanish 40 years ago...) Launched Writer, wrote "The rain in Spain stays mainly on the plain," changing the font every two words. Saved the "document," closed Writer, then clicked on the file to open Writer again. Opened a couple of simple old spreadsheets in Calc, did a bit of editing which re-calculated some values, then closed Calc without saving the changes. All worked as it should, as long as I was patient enough to wait for the hardware. Giving this an OK for 32-bit, and validating. Advisory in comment 9.

Thanks for the 32-bit check. For future reference, it does not matter the language you put in the document, you can still mark sections with different languages. LO should accept it although warn that you do not have dictionaries installed. Work has been slow lately, but the testing version has been my daily driver since available and have not hit any problems in Writer. The only use of calc was to edit a spreadsheet embedded in a Writer document -- and no problem.
