added these packages: xscreensaver-6.07-2.mga9 xscreensaver-base-6.07-2.mga9 xscreensaver-common-6.07-2.mga9 xscreensaver-extrusion-6.07-2.mga9 xscreensaver-gl-6.07-2.mga9 invoked xscreensaver. GUI preview window states: very few (or no) screen savers appear to be available. This probably means that the "xscreensaver extras" and "xscreensaver-gl-extras" packages are not installed. choosing mode "only one screensaver" "Munch" then "preview" button results in black screen with text: "Munch crashed with status 1" choosing mode "rando screensaver" "themed" then "preview" button results in screensaver images when time set to 1 minute

Sorry, I forgot replying to that bug report. I now packaged version 6.08 and added a requirement to xscreensaver-base too. MGA9-64 Xfce on Acer Aspire 5253 No installation issues A bit surprised as running xscreensaver-settings or xscreensaver-demo both ask to stop light-locker which seems to be a Gnome thing. Found out that MATE requires some Gnome stuff. Anyway with borh commands I can select and preview choosing from a lot of screensavers. Looks OK to me.

"I guess it is a remnant from times when space was scarce. Maybe suggest is better, so user can easily remove extra screensavers." As you implied, potentially only a problem when space is scarce. But if space is that scarce, I would suggest that removing screensavers altogether would be a better choice. I'm going to validate.

MGA9-64 Xfce on Acer Aspire 5253 No installation issues. Ref bug 29086 for testing. Starting xscreensaver-settings or xscreensaver-demo results in the GUI showing up + a popup "Gnome light-locker running. Do you want to stop it" I've never installed any gnome stuff, but apparently some MATE (fully installed beside Xfce) parts require those.
