this is the apparently active internet device: wwp0s29u1u6i6

cdc_acm : TOSHIBA |H5321 gw [Communications|Abstract (modem)|AT-commands (v.25ter)] (vendor:0930 device:1319)

if it now disconnected, the netapplet icon displays the change - (ok)
if now attempting a re-connection - fails as expected.

This is different.
No network was set up during install.
At first boot login, network is indicated as connected (tick mark).
Network Centre reports that Wired (Ethernet) TOSHIBA H5321 gw: wwp0s29u1u6i6 is active (has the tick mark).
The connect / disconnect button is marked as "Disconnect"

There is no simcard in the machine, there can be no active connection using this device.

Despite not being manually configured during install, did it create any
files for the network? "/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-*" files
other then ifcfg-lo?

Comment 14 Dave Hodgins 2023-07-08 02:19:07 CEST
This is the same as in prior releases. Shortly after boot
/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/81-net.rules detects a network device and runs
/usr/lib/udev/net_create_ifcfg

That creates /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-$INTERFACE
(if it doesn't exist already) which is then used to make a network
connection.

The reason netapplet is showing connected is because one of them worked.

It's working as designed.
Comment 15 Morgan Leijström 2023-07-08 10:05:46 CEST
Call it whatever.
It should not tell user it is connected when it is not.
Comment 16 Ben McMonagle 2023-07-11 09:36:01 CEST
this is regression from Mageia-9-beta2-i586.

at login, there is a small "circular arrow" on the netapplet icon (globe) for a few seconds, but then it changes to the "no connection" red circle with a diagonal bar
Comment 17 Ben McMonagle 2023-07-11 09:37:52 CEST
same 3 ifcfg files,
same contents as rc1.
