Sorry I could not type the comment yesterday . In the configure media sources , new users may be confused which mirror list to choose. They should choose core, non-free, and tainted and so on, and I think 32 bit core at least should be enabled as well for 64 and vice versa , but they may not know that. so there should be a default button for that. and They should be grouped like this media mirror source (us or france, or address.) 64------ core ! ------- release update testing debug core backport tainted ! ----- nonfree ! --- 32----- core------ tainted----- nonfree---- another media source address 64----- the same 32---- the same The groups should expand and collapse. and if you hover over core or tainted word a description tooltip should appear.
Maybe you should have a look into our wiki. It is already well described: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Install_media_in_Mageia_for_beginners There is already a default that core and core_updates are enabled by default. Nonfree and Tainted cannot be enabled by default, as they contain non-free software, some of which may be illegal in some countries. So the user need to enable them on their own after checking their applicable law. This is also well described in the wiki: https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Install_media_in_Mageia_for_beginners#Types_of_Mageia_media And i can't see any difference in your list order to the actual one which is already implemented...
The line separation between each group is what I am suggesting and expandability and collapse for each one. Plus when you add another media source url, it is hard to tell which belong to which.
nested organised lists instead of one big list.
May you provide an example from another linux distribution which does it like you suggest?
Btw this seems like a duplicate of an old bug 6100 *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 6100 ***
