Description hakerdefo 63EARX 2023-03-23 17:32:48 CET
Currently Mageia beta defaults to Kicker as the application launcher instead of Kickoff application launcher. I think Kickoff has more features and it is the default application launcher on most distributions with KDE Plasma. It should be the default application launcher in Mageia KDE Plasma too.

But you know that KDE Plasma is a extreme modifiable desktop environment and that you only need 3 mouseclicks to change the application starter?

Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> switch

Thank you hakerdefo for the suggestion; and sturmvogel for the DIY fix.

This last point is worth considering. Sending this off to the KDE people for consideration; but we are in a version freeze for Mageia 9, so a change now is unlikely.

This has been discussed historically and it was favored by the community to stick with Kicker rather than the clunky Kickoff. I don't see any reason to change this default.

OK - but how do you return to Kicker after testing that awful thing?

The same way as you changed it:
Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> switch

That is what I expected but the 'switch' option is now greyed. I am testing in Mga8. I tried log out/in but no change - it is still greyed so there is no obvious way back to Kicker.

Ah - I figured it.
It's not:
> Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> switch
its:
Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> select "application menu" -> switch to get to kicker
and:
Right click on the application menu -> show alternatives -> select "application launcher" -> switch to get to kickoff

...but I agree that the default is fine and yes it was discussed at length some years ago.
