no letters in space between icons and letters

in this image I tried to select an *m* and it should have appeared in the space above between the icons and the lower letters.

Assigning to all packagers collectively, because there is no registered maintainer for this package.

CC'ing the last packager who pushed it.

installed dasher-5.0.0-0.8.beta.1.mga9.x86_64.rpm

no change

info: I also installed Cinnamon DE only from the same .iso and Dasher is ok there. seems to be DE specific

And when you installed Mate, no other DEs were installed, right?

Sounds like a missing dependency.

Is Mate using wayland? If yes, it is the same problem as in bug 31351.

Dasher isn't working under wayland. It is an unfixed upstream problem:

still valid:

ISO Name: Mageia-9-rc1-i586.iso
DATE.txt: Mon Jul 3 06:29:42 PM CEST 2023.

things have improved:

it now takes about 30 seconds before the letters begin to be copied from the work area to the text window.
