Description of problem: In the Mageia Welcome "Applications" pane, under the "System" tab, VirtualBox is recommended to users, and they can install it. This is fine for 64-bit users, but Mageia hasn't supported VirtualBox on 32-bit systems for some time. 32-bit users should be informed that Mageia doesn't support VirtualBox on their systems, before they attempt to install it. As it is now, they can click on the "Install" button and install the current placeholder package, but of course it doesn't work - a frustrating experience. Two suggestions for this were offered in Bug 31434 Comment 14: *Virtualbox* Virtualisation software (for installation into 64bit systems only) or *Virtualbox* Virtualisation software (installation into 32bit systems is no longer supported) Either of these would be acceptable, in my opinion.
Mageia 8 is also affected.

extra? Can Mageia Welcome use /boot/grub2/themes/grub2-mageia-default.png as a background, rather than the current background. It would tie in with MCC, wallpaper, grub2 and plymouth artwork. new bug/ enhancement request?
(In reply to Ben McMonagle from comment #3) > seems to be done > > what do you think TJ? It's done for Cauldron, but not for Mageia 8. I haven't seen any discussion that I remember about this in Mageia 8, so I don't know what, if anything, will be done there. However, I will change this into a Mageia 8 bug.

Great idea, Ben! I'd say a new bug/enhancement is the way to go. It would be nice if this could be accomplished before the release, but it's probably not essential if it's too difficult to do.
What about installs that only have refind installed as the boot loader?

(In reply to Dave Hodgins from comment #7) > What about installs that only have refind installed as the boot loader? I dont use rEFInd. do you mean the rEFInd boot menu? otherwise, I dont know how rEFInd generates its menu. alternate would be /usr/share/plymouth/themes/Mageia-Default/background.png

AMD Phenom II X4, AMD HD 8790 graphics, Atheros-based wifi, mga8-64 Plasma system. No installation issues. Put Mageia Welcome through its paces, saw that VirtualBox is only for 64-bits, installed a couple of things from the lists of apps. Everything looks good. Giving this an OK, and validating.

Finally got around to looking at it. Minor change needed. "64bits system" should be "64 bit systems". Removing the ok/validated.

(In reply to papoteur from comment #14) > (In reply to Brian Rockwell from comment #13) > > AS noted before 32bits > Sorry, I don't understand what this mean. It's English grammar rearing its ugly head. Correct usage dictates that in the Applications tab, Games, under Steam, "32 bits repositories" should be "32 bit repositories" and in System, under VirtualBox, "only 64 bits systems" should be "only 64 bit systems." A hyphen between the number and "bit" as in "32-bit" is common, but optional. (Don't yell at me - the rules were made before I was born.)
Just to clarify ... Instead of having the text "VirtualBox (only with 64 bits system)" which is grammatically incorrect (adjectives are not pluralized), it should be "VirtualBox (only with 64 bit systems)" The adjective is "bit". The noun the adjective describes is "systems", which should be plural as it refers to multiple computers that fit into the category of using a 32 bit cpu. Likewise with "32 bit repositories", the adjective is " bit". The adjective must be singular, while the noun is plural since it may refer to more than one. Keep in mind it's ok to refer to "32 bits", for example when saying an i586 computer moves 32 bits at time. In that case, "bits" is being used as a noun, not as an adjective.
New 2.25 in cauldron testing. This fix the wording for 32-bit and 64-bit. Papoteur

Looks correct in Mageia 9 now.
Whiteboard: (none) => MGA9-64-OK
Also correct in 32-bit Cauldron. I know this is largely a cosmetic issue, but since Mageia Welcome is on all of the release isos, and since it is supposed to give new users a good first impression of us, I believe this corrected version should be on the isos when they are released. I can't validate, because the bug is filed against Mageia 8 and that has not been addressed yet.

(In reply to Thomas Andrews from comment #23) > I checked it too, and it looks good. Validating again. I don't see an Advisory. Is this okay?: ============================================================================ Advisory: Mageia Welcome now shows that installing VirtualBox only works on 64-bit systems. Before, VirtualBox seemed to be installable on 32-bit systems, too. However, after clicking the Install button, only a placeholder was retrieved but not VirtualBox itself. SRPM mageiawelcome-2.19.1-1.mga8 RPM mageiawelcome-2.19.1-1.mga8.noarch.rpm ============================================================================= I haven't uploaded the advisory, but will when being told it is correct
Yes, that looks good to me. This final validated version corrected a couple of English language errors, but that was all. I don't think that necessarily needs to be included in the advisory, though I suppose it could be if you want to be absolutely complete.
Thanks, TJ, advisory uploaded
