Description Andrew Piubellini 2023-01-12 20:20:47 CET
Description of problem:

Handbrake version 1.6.0 was released on 2022-12-29, but Mageia Cauldron still provides version 1.5.1.

It would be good if Cauldron is upgraded to Handbrake 1.6.0, before the feature freeze for Mageia 9. Many important features have been introduced in Handbrake 1.6.0, such as AV1 video encoding; see https://github.com/HandBrake/HandBrake/releases/tag/1.6.0 for the full release notes.

May be good to update in mga8 too, which have the old 1.3.3.

One obstacle may be that for 1.4 versions I note "Please also make a backup of any custom presets and app preferences you have as they may not be compatible with newer versions."
Bad enough to pass it to backports?

Do as you wish, but I've been using handbrake 1.3.3 on mga8, it works like a charm. I would not risk creating a bug for one only new feature of the last version which is AV1.

Plus, internally, handbrake-1.6.0 is using ffmpeg-5, which may trigger a lot of different behaviour in the resulting encoding compared to what we have on mga8, tuned settings may be completely off.
