Description GG HH 2022-12-31 23:45:10 CET
Description of problem:
i get an error message from gnome-session-binary :
WARNING: Could not parse desktop file xscreensaver.desktop or it references a not found TryExec binary

xfce4-session-4.18.0-1.mga9 is installed. I am running gnome on X11.

xfce provides xscreensaver.desktop which is used whence a session is started
$ rpm -q -f /etc/xdg/autostart/xscreensaver.desktop
xfce4-session-4.18.0-1.mga9

screensaver.desktop expects to run xscreensaver
$ grep ^Exec= /etc/xdg/autostart/xscreensaver.desktop
Exec=xscreensaver -no-splash

screensaver may not be installed.
 $ rpm -q -f /usr/bin/xscreensaver
xscreensaver-6.06-1.mga9.tainted

There is 'TryExec=xscreensaver' in the .desktop file so I think missing xscreensaver pkg isn't really a problem. Besides that the msg is only a warning, not an error.

According to freedesktop.org's Desktop Entry Specification:

https://specifications.freedesktop.org/desktop-entry-spec/desktop-entry-spec-latest.html

"TryExec

Path to an executable file on disk used to determine if the program is actually installed. If the path is not an absolute path, the file is looked up in the $PATH environment variable. If the file is not present or if it is not executable, the entry may be ignored (not be used in menus, for example)."

It is not veru clean but I agree that there is no real problem.
You may close if you prefer. I submitted it as minor anyway.
thanks

Accepting your invitation "close if you prefer". Thanks Jani for answering the affair so quickly. Basically, things are working within definitions, albeit untidily.
