Hi, Lewis. Thanks for your reply. I'm using the latest Alpha1 Live ISO, and as it was the first try of the ISO I let Mageia automatically partition the whole disk. Thanks, chris_debian
Was it the GNOME Live ISO, and did you start the installer from the MageiaWelcome applet? If so, this is bug 31169. Starting the installer using the GNOME Applications menu should work. It's marked as a favourite, which is the nearest we can get to having a desktop icon in GNOME.

Chris, you have hardly given any information. Supporting Martin's comment: WHICH Live ISO were you using? How exactly did you launch the Installer from a live session? How far did the installation go before the error appeared? Immediately after the disc partitioning, at the start of Installation?
This was launched, as described above, by Lewis, from the Gnome ISO, and from the 'Welcome' applet. I successfully completed an install, using the applet, but after several 'Wait/ force quit' dialogue boxes. I didn't try the menu option. As this is a duplicate of 31169, and as a consequence of my sub-optimal bug report, I'll close or propose closure if this bug. I thought the bug reporting script that mentioned a Perl trace, my brief narrative and lspcidrake -v would help. I realise now that this wasn't enough, and giving more timely consideration to submitting the bug, rather than getting the bug submitted, was more important. Thanks for everyone's help and perseverance. Chris chris_debian

The 'Wait/ force quit' dialogue boxes are a known new Gnome problem, which will be in Errata. Apparently it is best just to ignore them.
