I have submitted texstudio 4.1.1 in updates_testing texstudio-4.4.1-1.mga8
MGA8-64 MATE on Acer Aspire 5253. No installation issues. Strange, when I first tried to open texstudio from the Applications menu, nothing seemed to happen. Launching from the CLI, opens first a splash, then the tool seems to open OK. Launching again from the menu, now OK. Opened a new document, based on the CV template provided, filled in some values, deleting some optionals, then save the file, trying to compile, getting error "Could not start Default Compiler:PdfLaTeX: pdflatex -synctex=1 -interaction=nonstopmode "documenttestupdate".tex." I have no idea what that means. Opened files I created before with gregorio, and those open correctly and can be viewed OK. So th problems I had where caused by not having filled out all fields indicated as compulsary, I guess. Tried a much simplier template, a letter, but kept getting the same error. If someone agrees this is my lack of knowledge showing, I will not object the OK, based on the correct working of the gregorio-generated files.

Installing the texstudio package works and the program runs but it complains that the tex tools are not installed. Currently my workstation does not have the tex packages installed. The package Lyx (another tex GUI editor) pulls the latex and texlive packages (among others). Maybe texstudio should do something similar.

(In reply to PC LX from comment #2) > The package Lyx (another tex GUI editor) pulls the latex and texlive > packages (among others). Maybe texstudio should do something similar. texlive is a recommended package. If you don't have installed it, this is because you used explicit option to not have Recommends installed. Which command is lacking? Is it provided by another package?
(In reply to papoteur from comment #3) > If you don't have installed it, this is because you used explicit option to > not have Recommends installed. texlive and latex are not installed and the recommends are not disabled. > Which command is lacking? Is it provided by another package? It complains about missing latex and tex related commands. Tested in two VirtualBox guests, using a combination of qarepo and the MCC tools. As far as I know, there were no Latex tools installed in either guest prior to this test. I started by installing texstudio from Core Release: The following 2 packages are going to be installed: - lib64quazip5_1-0.9.1-2.mga8.x86_64 - texstudio-3.0.4-1.mga8.x86_64 Running from the Plasma menu, I see the warning seen by PC LX. Using qarepo to download texstudio from Updates Testing and then updating using MCC brings in a number of dependencies: The following 66 packages are going to be installed: - cdialog-1.3-1.20160828.3.mga8.x86_64 - lib64brotlienc1-1.0.9-2.mga8.x86_64 - lib64kpathsea6-20200406-9.mga8.x86_64 - lib64ptexenc1-20200406-9.mga8.x86_64 - lib64qtermwidget5_0-0.16.1-2.mga8.x86_64 - lib64synctex2-20200406-9.mga8.x86_64 - lib64texlua5-20200406-9.mga8.x86_64 - lib64woff2enc1.0.2-1.0.2-3.mga8.x86_64 - lib64zziplib13-0.13.72-1.mga8.x86_64 - perl-B-Hooks-EndOfScope-0.240.0-4.mga8.noarch - perl-Class-Data-Inheritable-0.80.0-9.mga8.noarch - perl-Crypt-RC4-2.20.0-9.mga8.noarch - perl-Devel-GlobalDestruction-0.140.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-Devel-StackTrace-2.40.0-2.mga8.noarch - perl-Digest-Perl-MD5-1.900.0-7.mga8.noarch - perl-Digest-SHA1-2.130.0-28.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Dist-CheckConflicts-0.110.0-7.mga8.noarch - perl-Email-Date-Format-1.5.0-5.mga8.noarch - perl-Eval-Closure-0.140.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-Exception-Class-1.440.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-File-Copy-Recursive-0.450.0-2.mga8.noarch - perl-Font-AFM-1.200.0-9.mga8.noarch - perl-HTML-Form-6.70.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-HTML-Formatter-2.160.0-5.mga8.noarch - perl-HTML-Tree-5.70.0-4.mga8.noarch - perl-Jcode-2.70.0-23.mga8.x86_64 - perl-libxml-perl-0.80.0-10.mga8.noarch - perl-Log-Dispatch-2.700.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-Log-Log4perl-1.530.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-Mail-Sender-0.903.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-MIME-Charset-1.12.2-3.mga8.noarch - perl-MIME-Lite-3.31.0-2.mga8.noarch - perl-MIME-Types-2.180.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-Module-Implementation-0.90.0-7.mga8.noarch - perl-Module-Runtime-0.16.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-MRO-Compat-0.130.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-namespace-autoclean-0.290.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-namespace-clean-0.270.0-4.mga8.noarch - perl-OLE-Storage_Lite-0.200.0-2.mga8.noarch - perl-Package-Stash-0.390.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-Package-Stash-XS-0.290.0-4.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Params-ValidationCompiler-0.300.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-Parse-RecDescent-1.967.15-3.mga8.noarch - perl-Role-Tiny-2.1.4-2.mga8.noarch - perl-Specio-0.460.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-Spreadsheet-ParseExcel-0.650.0-8.mga8.noarch - perl-Spreadsheet-WriteExcel-2.400.0-9.mga8.noarch - perl-Sub-Exporter-Progressive-0.1.13-3.mga8.noarch - perl-Sub-Identify-0.140.0-8.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Sub-Quote-2.6.6-2.mga8.noarch - perl-Test-Fatal-0.16.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-Text-CSV_XS-1.450.0-1.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Tk-804.35.0-3.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Unicode-LineBreak-2019.1.0-6.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Unicode-Map-0.112.0-32.mga8.x86_64 - perl-Variable-Magic-0.620.0-6.mga8.x86_64 - perl-WWW-Mechanize-2.30.0-1.mga8.noarch - perl-XML-DOM-1.460.0-3.mga8.noarch - perl-XML-RegExp-0.40.0-9.mga8.noarch - perl-XML-XPath-1.440.0-2.mga8.noarch - perl-XString-0.5.0-1.mga8.x86_64 - perl-YAML-Tiny-1.730.0-3.mga8.noarch - qtermwidget-0.16.1-2.mga8.x86_64 - texlive-20200406-9.mga8.x86_64 - texlive-collection-basic-20200406-5.mga8.noarch - texstudio-4.4.1-1.mga8.x86_64 There were no installation issues, and running from the Plasma menu did not produce an error message.

I did not check for why 72 files were installed here vs. 66 the other way, but I strongly suspect it's a simple case of the difference between the two guests; the extra six packages had already been installed from other tests. I ran texstudio from the Plasma menu, and again I did not see the warning. I also did not have the problem Herman saw in Comment 1. Something different between MATE and Plasma, I guess. I had downloaded what was supposed to be a sample Latex file, and was able to load it into texstudio, but, being completely unfamiliar with Latex, I didn't get any farther than that. Attempting to compile it resulted in an error, which I strongly suspect is either mine, or in the file I downloaded. I'm going to send this on, based on Herman's successful efforts in Comment 1, and my two successful installs Validating.

Removing the validation. There have been around 20 releases going from the current texstudio-3.0.4-1 version to this version. This isn't just a bugfix update as it's multiple version updates. Extensive testing is needed to ensure it will not brake features or require config file changes for user's who have been using the current version, when they then install the update.

I am not at all competent to do "extensive testing" of this, as I don't recall ever using it before I did the minor stuff for comment 8 and comment 9. Removing the OK, as well.
Whiteboard: MGA8-64-OK => (none)
I totally agree with TJ here. "Extensive testing is needed to ensure it will not brake features" requires from us that we are at least somewhat experienced in that field, which we are clearly not. Breaking features is a responsibility of the developers of the program. That hasn't stopped us to implement e.g. the latest versions of kdenlive, which I found out not capable of opening older projects - I have a bug open for that in KDE's bugzilla.

I would recommend for Mageia to _recommend_, and not to _require_, the `texlive` package ; indeed, some users tend to prefer to have a “vanilla” install of TeX Live (more on this e.g. here: https://tex.stackexchange.com/a/200216/18401). BTW, the current version of TeXstudio is 4.5.1. Thanks!
CC: (none) => dbitouze
Now updated to texstudio-4.5.1-1.mga8 texstudio is already only recommending texlive
Thanks!
I tried. It seems to install fine, but I can't compile to PDF. I'm assuming it is just me. Does installing texlive-dist fix that issue?
Hi Dave, Yes that fixed it. I'm giving this an okay. Thank You
Whiteboard: (none) => MGA8-64-OK
Removing the ok. As it works with texlive-dist, but not without it, a requires for texlive-dist must be added.

I'll added texlive-dist as a recommended package but not as a required for users who doesn't want to install more than 1GB of dependencies.
