Fedora has issued an advisory on November 27:

The issue is fixed upstream in 1.8.3.

Mageia 8 is also affected.

No installation issues
From MCC: "Slixmpp is an elegant Python library for XMPP (aka Jabber)."
This is clearly developers area, so I OK it on clean install.
