Description Juergen Harms 2011-10-20 10:04:15 CEST
Description of problem:
Using k3b for copying an audio DVD (same device for read and write). K3b recognises the medium to be copied, reads that medium and than ejects the medium and asks for an empty medium to be inserted - so far everything is OK.

The problem: when then an empty DVD inserted, the system (for a while) pops up the "Available Devices" popup window, but k3b does nothing and practically hangs.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
k3b-2.0.2-3.mga1
How reproducible:

always (and other users have seen a similar problem)

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Launch k3b and insert medium to be copied - or the other way round
2. Hit "Copy Medium" and then (with standard options) "Start"
3. When prompted (reading accomplished), insert an empty DVD

Nothing happens

More info:
(a) The insertion of the empty medium is recognized by the system (the "Available Devices" popup appears).

(b) The actions of the 3 buttons in the "Waiting for Disk" popup of k3b are:
 - Load ... pushing this button has no consequence whatever
 - Eject ... the medium is ejected with the console message:
umount: /dev/sr0 is not mounted (according to mtab)
 - Cancel ... the copying activity is terminated, it is now possible to start a new copying action.

(c) The "Show debugging output" button (it appears after hitting the "Cancel" button) does not display any relevant data beyond the version info, the console output (starting K3b from a console) does neither.

(d) If (while k3b is waiting for the empty medium with an empty DVD already inserted) the DVD icon in the "Available Devices" popup window ist hit, a popup appears with "k3b is currently busy and cannot start any other operations" - which appears normal in this situation.

Starting to look at this.

Status: NEW => ASSIGNED

It works for me using CD's on cauldron, I don't have a music DVD at hand. I inserted an audio CD, hit Copy Medium and then inserted a blank CD which was read without issues and the was CD copied. And k3b version on cauldron is the same as in 1/updates, so the problem must lie somewhere else.

Have you looked if there are errors on .xession-errors file ?

Your question made me realise that I have made a very stupid mistake: I consistently tried to submit a DVD where a CD was required: this bug is rubbish and can be closed.

I am really sorry, evidently also for making such a blunder, but particularly for making you lose your time!

Don't worry.
