Working on my system using Mageia-9-alpha1-Live-Plasma-x86_64 In the guest settings under Display I have the controller set to VMSVGA, video memory at 128MB, and 3d acceleration enabled.

Bill's complaint is clear enough, comparison with all the other Live ISOs good. Can you Dave post a similar list of kernel, dkms, virtualbox, vbox packages to Bill's? There must be a difference in the host systems, and I do not doubt that you will find it.

I have moved my Vbox client to reflect your video memory at 128MB, and 3d acceleration enabled and left the default VMSVGA and sure enough the client booted to a normal working desktop. More testing but it looks like the default setup of a Vbox cliet results in a bott to black screen.
Confirming that if I turn off the 3d acceleration if boots to a black screen.
Thanks for the detective work. Who is the culprit? Cauldron Vbox client? Plasma, SDDM? dkms-virtualbox virtualbox virtualbox-guest-additions virtualbox-kernel-6.0.8-desktop-3.mga9

I've updated https://wiki.mageia.org/en/VirtualBox#Settings_on_the_virtual_machine stating that for M9 Plasma installs 3d must be enabled. Closing as invalid. To ensure consistency with people using the same software on other distributions we don't normally alter upstream defaults. Virtualbox is unlikely to change their default as it works fine without 3d for many other things.

Just asking if status is still unchanged? A half+ year have gone by.
