Thank you for the report.

I am not able to investigate it, so assigning directly to kernel/drivers.

"after latest update"
They might ask you about specific packages. To determine when a certain package was last updated (or installed):
 rpm -q --last {package}

Assignee: bugsquad => kernel

Comment 2 Thomas Backlund 2022-10-22 20:51:49 CEST
or just:

rpm -qa --last | less

to step through the installed/updated list

also check dmesg for any errors regarding your wireless...
Comment 3 Stephen Germany 2022-10-23 02:25:48 CEST
rpm -qa --last | less

can you attach full dmesg or journalctl log from last boot, so I can see if anything stands out...

Comment 8 Thomas Backlund 2022-10-29 14:40:12 CEST
the journal needs to be done as root, and only the last boot is needed, so do:

journalctl -b > journal-bug31006.log

and attach that file

Comment 10 Thomas Backlund 2022-10-29 15:56:18 CEST

hm, from that log:
Oct 29 06:39:56 localhost.localdomain network[1138]: rfkill: WLAN hard blocked
Oct 29 06:39:56 localhost.localdomain network[1138]: Could not set interface wlp6s0 flags (UP): Operation not possible due to RF-kill

I think there is a wifi hotkey switch (or some Function key (Fn + F..)) on that that you can try to press and see if it unblocks it...
Comment 11 Stephen Germany 2022-10-29 16:25:38 CEST
There is a wifi switch. I've already tried toggling it on/off.

No change. I swapped the hdd out and installed MX 21 and the wifi works with that distro.
Comment 12 Thomas Backlund 2022-10-29 16:27:47 CEST
ok, whats the output of:

rfkill list
Comment 13 Thomas Backlund 2022-10-29 16:44:12 CEST
oh, and MX 21 working is a totally different beast, as I think that runs on a debian 5.10 series kernel..

But since it used to work, try booting an older 5.19 series kernel and if that works, I'd like to the the "journalctl -b" output from that boot...

then we might find some answers as there has been _no_ changes to the ath5k driver for a long time upstream...

I take that back, checked wrong git branch...

there is 6 changes between 5.19 and 6.0 and 4 of them are code adjustments to new mac80211 api...
Comment 15 Stephen Germany 2022-10-29 17:08:18 CEST
Thomas, what you said about the switch got me thinking. I've never had to reconfigure the wifi even when trying out other distros.

So, kept I toggling the switch and rebooting until the wifi light flashed. Then I had to reconfigure the wifi.

I rebooted again and it still works. It's a 15 year old Acer Aspire. Could have been me or the old laptop. Probably me losing track of what I was doing. However, it started with the kernel update.

I am really sorry for the trouble and I thank you.
