Description of problem: Blu-ray drive keeps speeds up, then slows down dramatically when writing a 25GB JVC BD-R LTH type Blu-ray disc Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):K3B 20.12.0 How reproducible: not sure, but it has happened several times Steps to Reproduce: 1. Burn files from an ISO to the aforementioned disc type 2. 3.I have noticed that when writing to the aforementioned disc type (my drive is an HLDS (LG) WH16NS58 with (Vinpower Digital firmware) that K3B will start writing normally, and then, at about 25% done, the drive will start to "hunt" and slow down dramatically (writing 2-4 megs at once instead od around 30 megs). I can hear the drive speeding up and then slowing down. I notice that the device buffer fills up (but maybe around 80% and the drops down to around 12%. It does this repeatedly. Thinking it might be the drive, I tried using Brasero. Brasero just exits with the message "internal error" and does nothing. I tried xfburn and it works perfectly...no problem at all. I used the same files and the same discs for all tests. I also tried it using BurnAware Free(V11.3) for Windows (Windows 10) and again, it worked perfectly. It's more annoying than anything else, but it shouldn't take hours to write a disk. Thank you.

Thank you for this report. I have searched around this problem, and found nothing. Also searched through the k3b configuration options to see whether there is anything that might be relevant - nothing. > I tried xfburn and it works perfectly Significant: at least you can do what you want. > Brasero just exits with the message "internal error" and does nothing We are even considering dropping Brasero because it is moribund upstream. I do not have the appropriate h/W to try this, so in case there is an upstream recognition of this problem (not found), assigning to the KDE team.

(1) Does the burn complete without errors (regardless of how long it takes) ? (2) Does the final burn pass validation ? (2) Is there anything in the debug information (which can be opened from the completion screen) ?

Ok, so I tried burning two copies of the same files. Around 97% of Copy 1, the drive started hunting around (speeding up and slowing down) It eventually did finish, and seemed ok. I let the computer sit for about 45 minutes for attempting Copy #2. Copy #2 worked perfectly. I don't think the problem is K3B or the software, but rather, the drive may have started overheating and slowed to compensate. I'm going to physically move it in the case and possibly add another fan near it.
One thing I have found that does fix it (although it's a bit of a nuisance) is to shut down the computer and reboot it.
