Hi The boinc-client and boinc-manager versions are quite old in MGA8 (from Dec'20). The detection of the CPU load and user actions are still hectic. There might be improvements and bug fixes in 7.18.1 (Cauldron version) worth having. I could update it myself, but I don't want to do that when an official packager is already assigned; except if there is a request for support. Plus, might be better to update it for everyone at once. Thanks.
I am too a BOINC user. I agree with all said. And I can test it when in updates_testing. It seems nobody is registered maintainer: https://madb.mageia.org/package/show/application/0/arch/x86_64/name/boinc-client https://madb.mageia.org/package/show/application/0/arch/x86_64/name/boinc-manager So please give it a try, Christian :)

Hi. My bad, I overlooked it. I thought Wally was the packager. I'll give it a try then.
7.18.1 is labelled as an Android update on Github and, building it for MGA8 leads to the pre-release status displayed. I propose then to update to 7.16.21, which is the last update of this branch. 7.20 branch is arriving and I will update to it when ready.
Summary: Update boinc-client and manager to 7.18.1 => Update boinc-client and manager to 7.16.21
Sounds good to me.
Ready for QA in Core/Updates_testing ADVISORY NOTICE PROPOSAL ======================== boinc-client and boinc-manager updates fix bugs and improve stability Description This version 7.16.21 is the last update within the 7.16 branch. It provides bug fixes and stability improvements. The Mageia package has been improved by setting the boinc_platform parameter for x86_64 arch and by making consistent the working directory between the desktop file and the systemd service. Successful update on x86_64 Plasma. Restart. boinc-client service status ok. boinc-manager launch ok. Projects and tasks are still there. Sync with account manager ok.
mga8-64 OK, with Plasma, kernel 5.18.12-desktop-1.mga8 (backports testing) Was running 7.16.14. I let old client and manager run, crunching on projects, while updating client and manager to the new versions using rpmdrake. Rebooted the system. I dont have it start as a service here, but instead have a self made script trigged by login to Plasma, that launches a bunch of application in succession with delays in between, one of them is boincmgr. (And, sidenote: sometimes old boinc manager failed silently to launch, and if so, I then simply to log out then in again. (just relaunching boincmgr then also fail, I have not tried to investigate) That issue I did not see here on first try.) It launches OK, runs CPU tests, then resume projects. Also a project that is run via VirtualBox is OK (LHC@home ATLAS, @5CPU) File location is nonstandard, and it works. It detects Nvidia OpenCL and CUDA (but I have no such work to run) Communicates with and downloads from project. Communicates with boincstats.
Whiteboard: (none) => MGA8-64-OK
I see Cauldron have 7.18.1, which is good for now. Optimally now on mga8 test a fresh install of boinc 7.16.21 and attach to project would be nice.
Validating. Advisory in Comment 5.
