Description of problem: Just now was the most misleading status since I've been trying to notice a pattern...

proftpd was stopped.
Went to mcc Services & Daemons to see proftpd "Running".
Double-checked: nope, not running.
Clicked Start and Status changed to "Stopped" & proftpd is running.

For other services, I've seen:
- correct status
- wrong status
- status changes as expected
- status doesn't change as expected

This was the first time seeing a status changing; but complete opposite to reality...

How reproducible:  not sure. I've been watching for a pattern for weeks; and have learned to not trust the display. This one was too obvious...

1. mcc Services and daemons
2. compare status to state of service
