MGA8-64 Plasma system using the server kernel with Intel i5-2500, on-board Intel graphics, wired Internet and also rtl8192eu wifi, Intel DQ67SW motherboard. No installation issues. Everything seems to work except for VirtualBox. Running a MGA8-64 Plasma guest is unstable to the point of being unusable. Enabling 3D graphics helps with the stability, but it still can crash Firefox inside the guest if a Youtube video is played. This is technically not a new regression, but it is serious for those affected. running under the 5.15.43 kernel seems to eliminate the problem. As stated earlier, everything else seems to work - all is stable on real hardware.

MGA8-64 Plasma system, AMD Phenom II X4 910, AMD HD8490 graphics, ath9k and rtl8192eu wifi, desktop kernel. No installation issues. No issues noted after the reboot, including with a VirtualBox guest. Even with 3d acceleration disabled, the Plasma MGA8 guest was as stable and responsive as normal. I even updated the guest kernel for a test (no issues), something I couldn't do on the Intel-based install of Comment 2, because of instability.
Update: With virtualbox-6.1.34-1.8.mga8 of today, the guest do not crash :) Same host and guest and tests as in comment 1: OK
I've removed the kmods for this kernels so vbox update in bug 30567 can be validated first

Probook 6550b, mga8-64 Plasma system. Being Intel-based, this system was subject to the recent virtualbox problems. Updated the kernel, including the kmods from Comment 8. No installation issues. Rebooted, no regressions noted. Playing a Youtube video in Firefox in a mga8 guest was subject to occasional buffering, but this is normal for this host. The processor only has two cores, so the vbox guest only has the use of one of them. Firefox did remain stable during the buffering. Looks good on this hardware.
On the host, no regressions noticed. In vb, with an i586 m8 guest, no regressions noticed. With an x86_64 m8, guest froze about half way through playing of kde startup sound. Rebooted, it's working except no sound at all. Only message in the journal that looks like it might be relevant ... Jun 23 15:19:38 kernel: [drm:vmw_msg_ioctl [vmwgfx]] *ERROR* Failed to open channel.

Just realized. When the x86_64 guest lost sound, so did the i586 guest. Shutdown both guests and vb, then restarted them. In the x86_64 guest, sound now sort of works. It plays but with slight pauses every second. The sound in the i586 guest is back to working normally.

(In reply to Morgan Leijström from comment #14) > mga8-64, retesting same system as comment 1. ... > Tests as VirtualBox Host: Fail booting my Windows 7 guest. Now it works with 5.15.50 - no idea why it did not in comment 14. Since then, i have: Installed kernel 5.15.46: cpupower 5.15.46 1.mga8 x86_64 kernel-desktop-5.15.46-1.mga8 1 1.mga8 x86_64 kernel-desktop-devel-5.15.46-> 1 1.mga8 x86_64 kernel-desktop-devel-latest 5.15.46 1.mga8 x86_64 kernel-desktop-latest 5.15.46 1.mga8 x86_64 kernel-userspace-headers 5.15.46 1.mga8 x86_64 lib64bpf0 5.15.46 1.mga8 x86_64 virtualbox-kernel-5.15.46-des> 6.1.34 1.16.mga8 x86_64 virtualbox-kernel-desktop-lat> 6.1.34 1.16.mga8 x86_64 And verified this VB guest in question still worked. 5.15.48 is not in testing repo anymore, so could not try. (I had uninstalled .46 and .48 after testing them earlier) Then I let this system boot on .50 again, and this VB guest works! I guessed it may be because it now had .46 versions of lib64bpf0, cpupower, kernel-userspace-headers, so I updated them to .50 again, rebooted, and this VB guest still works. * So OK now, but why not before...? * Tests in this VirtualBox guest running under kernel desktop 5.15.50-1: Guest 1: my usual MSW7pro-64, tests OK: dynamic guest window resizing, bidirectional clipboard, host shared folders write protected and not, USB2 memory stick read&write (using upstream extension pack), video playing in Firefox and Chrome. I keep using this kernel.
I just posted to the qa discuss ml regarding vb corruption that did impact my x86_64 guest forcing a reformat/install. That was likely caused by a former kernel or vb version. No regressions with this kernel update noticed on my two x86_64 systems, aarch64 system, or with i586 and x86_64 vb guests.

And now it appears that it will not play audio either. All you get is the command line interface.
vlc is working normally here including audio. With reference to comments 24 and 25: On my other machines I tend to use $ vlc --avcodec-hw none to avoid the stream of error messages in a terminal but on this Celeron system that option is not recognised. $ vlc --avcodec-hw none *.avi VLC media player 3.0.17.3 Vetinari (revision 3.0.17.3-0-8e19ecd05497) vlc: unknown option or missing mandatory argument `--avcodec-hw' Added the "missing" codecs but that made no difference - vlc does not have a gui mode on this machine for some reason. It was installed at the same time as the OS. The launcher properties show that the default command is: `/usr/bin/svlc %U` I fear this is straying off-topic - my hunch is that this has little to do with the kernel directly but more with the compatibility of vlc and the Celeron architecture. Installed lshw and checked the x86_64 section with another machine and noted that the Celeron has far fewer capabilities.
MGA8-64 Plasma on Acer Aspire 5253 No installation issues, using the server version. Internet and LAN access, different document types, newspaper site with text and pictures and video and crosswords game, mpg file with vlc-player, all work OK.
Try running vlc (rather then svlc) from the command line. For further discussion about vlc let's move that to the qa-discuss ml.
