Comment 4 Morgan Leijström 2022-04-23 19:25:43 CEST
mga8-64 OK here;

Hardware:  My workstation "svarten": Mainboard: Sabertooth P67, CPU: i7-3770, RAM 16G, GM107 [GeForce GTX 750] using nvidia-current; GeForce 635 series and later, 4k display.  Disk&Filesystem: SSD with /boot/EFI and ext4 /boot, LUKS{LVM {swap, ext4 /home & / } and a spinner at /mnt/spinner

System was running desktop backport. Disabled core repos backports and backports_testing, then downgraded versions to updates_testing using urpmi:

$ sudo urpmi --downgrade lib64bpf0 cpupower kernel-userspace-headers kernel-desktop-latest kernel-desktop-devel-latest virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest

(Had this time to skip downgrade virtualbox-kernel-desktop-latest as virtualbox-kernel-desktop is not yet built.)

(Detail: the "-latest" packages also each downgraded the versions of respective dependency, in total 9 packages got new versions by that urpmi command, and the backport kernel is still installed also.)

AMD Phenom II X4 910, AMD HD 8490 graphics, ath9k and rtl8192eu wifi, mga8-64 Plasma system. Updated VirtualBox first, installed extension pack and guest additions, then came here.

The following 7 packages are going to be installed:

- cpupower-5.15.35-2.mga8.x86_64
- kernel-desktop-5.15.35-2.mga8-1-1.mga8.x86_64
- kernel-desktop-devel-5.15.35-2.mga8-1-1.mga8.x86_64
- kernel-desktop-devel-latest-5.15.35-2.mga8.x86_64
- kernel-desktop-latest-5.15.35-2.mga8.x86_64
- kernel-userspace-headers-5.15.35-2.mga8.x86_64
- lib64bpf0-5.15.35-2.mga8.x86_64

No installation issues. rtl8192eu and virtualbox kmods appeared to build successfully. (I got in a short nap during the process.)

After the reboot, ran VirtualBox and updated the kernel in a mga8-64 Plasma guest, also successfully. Ran this and that in the host, including writing this report in Firefox. Looks good on this hardware.

10-Core Intel Core i9-7900X, NVIDIA GP102 [GeForce GTX 1080 Ti]
All packages except source. Scheduled updates at same time as kernel update.
Rebooted to the desktop kernel. Everything as it should be, NFS shares mounted and virtualbox launches Mageia clients successfully.

Same hardware as Comment 6, with a mga8-32 Plasma install using the server kernel.

No regressions noted.

Dell Inspiron 5100, 32-bit P4, Radeon RV200 graphics, ath3k wifi module, mga8-32 Xfce system, using the desktop kernel.

No installation issues. No new regressions seen after the kernel was updated.

I am seeing an issue where drakconf comes up with a blank screen, but I first noticed the issue before updating the kernel, so it is not a new regression. The issue was not there when the last kernel was installed, so most likely is being caused by another update somewhere along the way. I will be opening a separate bug on this issue.

Bug 30332.

This issue appears to be video-related somehow. Switching this hardware and kernel from the "radeon" driver to "vesa" allows drakconf to come up normally.

@ Herman: probably Bug 29830
Comment 19 Herman Viaene 2022-04-27 15:32:34 CEST
@Morgan
I guess so, but it is annoying as I get the same when I disable the QARepo and enable Core Update testing and use MCC - Install software.

@Herman
I avoid the annoyance by never testing backported kernels and "regular" update kernels on the same install. But you are right, it's not good. And I don't understand why we don't fix it, but then I'm not a developer.

Tested on a Probook 6550b, i3, Intel graphics, Intel wifi, mga8-64 Plasma system. The nonfree firmware updates had already been installed.

No installation issues, and no regressions noted after the reboot.
