Description of problem: Sometimes users need to reformat USB sticks, and should not risk formatting wrong device. Diskdrake does not really protect, more than throwing up a warning when it start (which irritates some, Bug 4349) We *do* have a tool to format sticks, while protecting users from working on system disks, but many users do not know it or find it: Suggestion: add isodumper to Mageia Control Center, section Local disks (also an external is locally connected) with descrition "isodumper - make live Mageia USB drives, format, and backup external drives." How reproducible: By most newbies Related: isodumper GUI improvement Bug 27744

Hi Morgan, It is already in section System, Administration tools. Should it be moved?

I did not look in administration section for a disk tool as there is a disk section... Should have looked everywhere! Um yes, IMO, should be moved to local disk section, as it operates a local (yet external) disk... What do others think? CC:ing a couple veterans

Pardon my question, it seems that "Writing ISO Images on a USB device or formatting" shows up in MCC only when isodumper is installed - this seems to be a bit against the general MCC behavior (which assumes a tool is present always in the interface but the necessary packages are to be installed when you want to use that tool). Not really a problem but a user who just explores MCC won't have a clue Mageia has such a tool (he must have already heard about isodumper and manually installed it in order to see it). And this is also the reason why I didn't know MCC had it, until now...

This is an interesting point. Yes, with IsoDumper installed, I see it under System-Admin Tools. Local Discs perhaps is a better place to put IsoDumper; it is not really a sysadmin tool, but a user one. If this was done: - it would have to be always included with MCC (as suggested above). - The MCC manual may need adjusting accordingly; it has nothing for IsoDumper at present. A biggish job if done, but perhaps not necessary since IsoDumper has its own built-in Help. I would leave this aspect alone. For Mageia 9?
I've never noticed that it was in mcc before. I've always used it either from the regular menu or from the command line. There's a lot of overlap in terms of which menu entries could go where in mcc, and don't really think it matters where in mcc it goes. I think having it be recommended when mcc is installed is a good idea. As mcc is a gtk application, isodumper-gtk would be preferred.

I suggest move it to Local Discs - before we start documenting! And let mcc recommend isodumper-gtk And this should preferrably be done soon, before mga9, so users find it more easily for making the mga9 installer or live sticks :)
> And let mcc recommend isodumper-gtk Alternatively do like for draksnapshot: It is not installed by default, but mcc displays it anyway, and when clicked on it there is a popup asking if i wish to install it. Similar also to printers, and scanners.
All round, there is agreement about: - including it with MCC (or as per previous comment, more refined). - moving it to Local Discs. So it something small but definite for M9.

Summary: Add isodumper to Mageia Control Center => Move Isodumper in MCC to the "local disks" section, show the entry even when it isn't installed (let then clicking it install it)CC: (none) => marja11
