Is this a specific dnf problem: I have here an almost unused mate desktop,updated to 1.24.1-1 by the regular MCC tools, and the mate-desktop-schemas is installed.
If I would try to remove it, the whole desktop goes.

In MATE desktop one doesn't hit this issue easily as missing pkg is pulled by plenty of other MATE pkgs. Mate-desktop-schemas wasn't pulled before the fix if e.g. Xfce user installed caja.

I also installed gvfs-smb to confirm no issues with windows networking.  No issues
