Sorry for the angst. This looks like a duplicate of bug 29182:

Can't locate object method "get_xid" via package  "Glib::Object::_Unregistered::GdkWaylandWindow" at /usr/libexec/mgaapplet-upgrade-helper line 209.

Can you say whether you too were using Wayland? Note:
 https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29182#c1     which says
"I logged out and logged in again under Xorg and issued "su -c 'mgaapplet-upgrade-helper --new_distro_version=8'" the upgrade started and completed without issue."

*** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 29182 ***

Comment 3 Franz Holzinger 2021-12-08 21:15:44 CET
Yes, I use GNOME with Wayland.

[franz@franz-820 html]$ loginctl
SESSION  UID USER   SEAT  TTY
      3 1000 franz  seat0 tty2
     c2    2 daemon

2 sessions listed.
[franz@franz-820 html]$ loginctl show-session 3 -p Type
Type=wayland
Comment 4 Lewis Smith 2021-12-12 20:42:15 CET
Thanks for the confirmation.
Did you try the workaround (Xorg) identified in comment 2 to get the upgrade done?
