Comment 2 Morgan Leijström 2021-10-23 11:50:54 CEST
mga8-64, Plasma, Swedish

Clean update, settings, a bunch of accounts and many thousand mails still here.
Sending by SMTP, retrieve and sync via offline mode IMAP.
I only use Thunderbird for email.

Error messages in Konsole from where i launched it:

For every mail I view:
---------
IPDL protocol error: Handler returned error code!

###!!! [Parent][DispatchAsyncMessage] Error: PClientManager::Msg_ForgetFutureClientSource Processing error: message was deserialized, but the handler returned false (indicating failure)
---------
Already reported in https://bugs.mageia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29471#c2

But more scary: When i close Thunderbird by the window frame (X) button:
---------
###!!! [Parent][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost
---------
I have no idea if message = email in this case, or lower level.
Have not noticed anything lost yet...

MGA8 Plasma, US English.

No installation issues. Checked email using POP and newsgroups, no apparent errors when run from the desktop launcher. When run again from the command line, I see the same error messages as Morgan. No error messages when reading newsgroup posts.

I almost never run Thunderbird from the command line, so I have no idea if these messages are new with this version or if they have been there a while.

MGA8-64 Plasma on Lenovo B50
No installation issues overwriting previous version.
Started at CLI , using a hotmail server connection and got some feedback
$ thunderbird
(thunderbird:4407): Gtk-WARNING **: 10:35:31.667: Theme parsing error: gtk.css:2:33: Failed to import: Fout bij het openen van bestand /home/tester8/.config/gtk-3.0/window_decorations.css: file or folder does ot exist
IPDL protocol error: Handler returned error code!

###!!! [Parent][DispatchAsyncMessage] Error: PClientManager::Msg_ExpectFutureClientSource Processing error: message was deserialized, but the handler returned false (indicating failure)
IPDL protocol error: Handler returned error code!

This last oneis repeated some 10times
I sent and received email without and with attachment to/from my regular emailaddress on my desktop PC.
At closing thunderbird I got:
###!!! [Parent][RunMessage] Error: Channel closing: too late to send/recv, messages will be lost
But I've seen these messges at previous versions as well, never bothered about them since all operations work OK in the application.
OK as far as I am concerned.

Comment 5 Morgan Leijström 2021-10-27 11:14:05 CEST
I often start applications i test from command line, to see if they have something to say.

This is rather new but seem harmless, and probably a design sloppiness in Thunderbird.

It is a pity, applications spewing full of warnings and errors in normal operation, makes QA miss real problem they app may report some time :(
Comment 6 Thomas Andrews 2021-10-28 01:16:16 CEST
Since it seems to be working as designed, I'm sending it on before a newer update shows from upstream.

Validating.
