Under Mageia 7 this printer worked with no problems but under Mageia 8 it fails to print and eventually times out and then it prints a failure message. Internal Error - False POSITION : 0x1e6a2 ( 124578) System : h6fwsim_snipe/x1_image Line : 132 VERSION : SPL 5.07 06-27-2006 Note- This message is different every time, it sometime says Internal Error - Incomplete Session by Time Out I have a Backup Disc of Mageia 7 which works perfectly o/k on the same PC. There appears to be a fix on https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/pull/160 for Cups I would be grateful if cups 2.3.3op2 1.mga8 x86_64 could be updated to cure this problem.
FWIW, the pull request belongs to the upstream bugreport https://github.com/OpenPrinting/cups/issues/171

Just tried Cauldron and the printer seems to work o/k.
So this is a regression from mga7, and Cauldron works. Just not mga8. @packager: can the upstream patch be used on mga8, or update CUPS?

Last cups update is 2.4.0 from 29 November 2021. Thus it includes this fix. Should we apply only the patch or update to the last release ?

To me, an unpatched upstream release version sounds best - unless we need to alter it for some reason, up to the packager. I will test either update on latest Canon UFRII driver, and Boomaga.
Patching the existing version is preferred, in order to minimize the chances of causing unexpected regressions that might impact systems where cups is currently working in m8. However it's up to the packager to decide if patching is too difficult compared to updating to a new version. If a new version is used, it will need more thorough testing for regressions.

yes, i would be for adding the patch: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/commit/8f6d1abb628f060426d6871edd65aa0ec70cee12

Yes that is wise. I have myself had a printer driver failing after ghostscript update in Mageia 6, as Canon was using old unsupported commands... https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=4203&p=76700#p75161
As of today I am running a fully up to date Mageia 8 but the printer still doesn't work and the cups version is 2.3.3op2.
Still no fix
We stopped supporting Mageia 8 almost 8 months ago https://blog.mageia.org/en/2023/12/30/mageia-8-end-of-life/ That means we also stopped fixing Mageia 8 bugs and that this bug report needs to be closed, regardless of whether it was fixed for Mageia 8 or not. If this particular bug did not get fixed for Mageia 8, then we do regret that. If this issue is still present in Mageia 9 or cauldron, then please reopen this report, write a comment and adjust the "Version:" field. If you are not yet a member of one or our teams, then please consider becoming one. https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Contributing Mageia is a community project, meaning that we, the users, make Mageia together.
