My preferred mirror seemed to be having difficulties so I switched to MIRROR_SERVICE.  Still having problems with qarepo so dumped it.
After that the packages installed cleanly.
The system rebooted to its normal working state.  Virtualbox had been running and the client recovered without problems.  So far so good.

Ran updates for nvidia, etc.   they all applied fine and then rebooted again.

System is behaving as expected.

No regressions found on 3 x86_64 hardware installs, i586 and x86_64 vb guests, as
well as an aarch64 rpi4b.
