Description Jybz 2021-09-19 19:19:10 CEST
Hello, sad news but some community forum are down.
Some of domains were resold.

https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewforum.php?f=20&sid=e9b99ea20fc9acec6d25dba80f9c1f2d

Particularly:
- Turkish
- Italian mageiaonline.it
- Chinese
- Polish

I ran a whois for each of the forum domains

mageiaonline.it has the Status: AVAILABLE so someone at mageia.org should register that domain as soon as possible.

Here are the other results.
mandriva-tr.org seems to have been assigned to someone in CN.
mageia.org.pl seems to be assigned to "Research and Academic Computer Network”
mageia-zh.com seems to be assigned to mageia-zh.com

Perhaps a complaint should be issued to ICANN regarding what appears to be domain name hijacking.

There's nothing that forums team can do about that, this would be something for sysadmins or treasurer. Also not sure why hijacking/theft is referenced when none of those domains belonged to Mageia.Org in the past. It's pretty simple, if the domain registration has expired then the registrar can resell those domains again to anybody who wants to buy them.

I can remove the broken links at https://forums.mageia.org/en/viewforum.php?f=20 or change them once those community forums are reachable again.

Florian Hubold the forums.mageia.org page presents those forums as official Mageia assets. If a forum is not a Mageia asset in my humble opinion it should not have a link in that location but perhaps on the Community page under a heading of external forums or some such.

FWIW, I've removed the following forums from the listing:

mageia-zh.com (Chinese)
mageiaonline.it (Italian)
mageia.org.pl (Polish)
mandriva-tr.org (Turkish)

I've also tried to change the description of the subforum to mark those as external forums but as it's not a "real" subforum the description does not show anywhere.

Apart from that I don't understand the argument about "official" forums - they are a part of the community, there's nothing more or less official.

I think all useful forums should be listed where people look/search for them.

That central listing can then be linked to from various places.

I felt a page like that was missing, so a while ago I created:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/User_Forums (linked from our main page)
Please update/extend/modify how you please :)

There may be categories in the listing.
This is a community driven distro, I feel too "official" is a bit ambigous.

Also see:
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Forums - a kind of discussion/internal work/plan, that seems more or less abandoned - good of course if it is updated by anyone working on this :)
