Description jclb 2021-05-14 06:31:56 CEST
Here is what have told me, the reason why it is not in mageia8:

So an application that remained in Python2, which is no longer supported since January 2020. Developers do not wish to maintain Python2 applications.
If someone has migrated this software to Python3, it can be reinstated.

------
description
key-mon:
A screencast utility that displays your keyboard and mouse status

Key-mon is useful for teaching since it shows the current status of your keyboard and mouse and you use them in another application. No longer do you need to say 'Now I'm pressing the Ctrl-D key', your students can just see the keystroke for themselves.

This displays all keystrokes and mouse clicks, it is made for video tutorials and teaching.

This is the only program that exists, you have to put it back in Mageia9 (cauldron)

An alternative is available in Mageia 8: screenkey
Comment 2 David GEIGER 2021-05-14 12:55:20 CEST
python2 only package this is why we have dropped it from mageia8 repo!

We can't do something if upstream itself don't take care to port key-mon to python3.

So closing this bug as wontfix!

> #!/usr/bin/env python3

Actually, it is a python3 repository.

I tried "screenkey", it's pretty big, it can troubleshoot, hoping it updates to python3, thanks.

We just have to wait, thank you all.

I have just been told elsewhere, than on the link I posted.

https://github.com/scottkirkwood/key-mon

It is precisely python3

So do you take into account that we can have it in cauldron?

Comment 6 Sébastien Morin 2021-05-15 09:03:40 CEST
Reopened since there is a python3 version available, which could therefore be packaged for Mageia 8.
Comment 7 David GEIGER 2021-05-15 09:08:36 CEST
Nop there is NO official python3 release! just some commits who started to port it to python3.

Also since 2020-10-30 there is no more commits and his bug is alaways open:

https://github.com/scottkirkwood/key-mon/issues/85

So please stop to asked for a non maintaining upstream package, thanks!
Comment 8 Sébastien Morin 2021-05-15 09:42:59 CEST
Ok, it seems the best solution here is to consider using the alternative suggested above by sturmvogel: screenkey
