Description w unruh 2021-04-26 20:04:00 CEST
Description of problem:
xournal stops responding to commands-- neither the pen, the colour chooser, the text chooser work. This happens suddenly in the midst of editing a pdf file. The only solution I have found is to save the the file as an .xoj file, quit xournal, and then reload that file, which is of course a real pain.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):xournal-0.4.8.2016-2.mga7.src.rpm
Running on an updated Mageia 7 on a desktop machine running XFCE desktop, with a DELL touchscreen monitor. The touchscreen still works-- using the pen, I can see a little red dot (I have the red colour chosen) but no lines are drawn if I select the pencil, and if I select the typing, no cursor is displayed when I click on some place on the surface to try typing there (and typing produces no letters on the screen anywhere). Highly frustrating as I am trying to mark papers for a contactless class.

Note that I have been teaching with this setup for the past 4 months using the Zoom whiteboard, and have never had a problem like this with zoom, so it definitely seems to be a xournal problem.
Also note that I have the same problem whether I use the pen, or I use the mouse to try to draw on the screen.

How reproducible: randomly. It will work fine for a while and then suddenly stop working. Is it something I did? Maybe, but I do not know what. I have not done anything noteworthy before it stops working.

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Use xournal to put annotations onto a pdf file.
2.Suddenly it stops allowing you to annotate the file, either with drawing, text or eraser.
3.Savin the xoj file shutting down xournal and restarting it allows it to work again.

Hi, thanks for reporting this bug.
Assigning globally.
Added Kernel and Drivers maintainers.

Glad to see a reboot clear this issue but it not a viable solution in long term.

@reporter, can you even produce the output of:

$ sudo journalctl -f

(or doing this as root in a terminal)
when the issue occurs to see if there is any errors logged in system journal?

Mageia 7 is EOL since July 1st 2021.
There will not have any further bugfix for this release.

You are encouraged to upgrade to Mageia 8 as soon as possible.

@reporter, if this bug still apply with Mageia 8, please let us know it.

@packager, if you work on the Mageia 7 version of your package, please check the Mageia 8 package if issue is also present. In this case, please fix the Mageia 8 version instead.

This bug report will be closed OLD if there is no further notice within 1st September 2021.

Hi bug reporter and hi assignee and others involved,

Please reopen this bug report if it is still valid for Mageia 8 or 9(cauldron), and change "Version:" in the upper left of this report accordingly.

This report is being closed as OLD because it was filed against Mageia 7, for which support ended on June 30th 2021.

Thanks,
Marja
