Description of problem: since the MGA8 update I can't access any usb devices from a virtualbox guest (windows or linux or else) all is up-to-date and as that was not working I've reinstalled guests additions and extension packs v6.1.18r142142 but that has changed nothing. I, have access to the shared directory but no usb devices are not seen anymore. that was working fine with MGA7.1. Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): virtualbox v6.1.18r142142 How reproducible: just try to access any type usb device from a guest... the only answer is 'no device connected to usb' altough there coulb dbe plenty of usb disks or printer/scanner connected. any ideas ?

Try in a guest created from cero
Cero ? what is this ? BTW, what is important to me is recovering usb access in all the guests I have already and that are important for my work. Under MGA7.1 I made a lot of virtualbox and extension/guests additions packs updates and never got that problem. if updating MGA means losing stuff that are needed I don't see the point to upgrade.

Just making sure it's clear, the extensions have to be installed in the host, and the guest additions in each guest. I just installed vb on one of my m8 installs. Before starting virtualbox, I added my id to the vboxusers and vboxsf groups, and logged out/in so the changes would take effect, then installed the extensions on the host. I installed m8 in a new guest, and after starting the guest plugged usb stick into the system, used the Devices menu in vb to attach it to the guest, and it auto opened in Thunar. (I started xfce in the guest, plasma is on the host).

Ah. Sorry for the noise about vboxsf. It's not used by virtualbox, just for mounting the vb file (.vdi etc.) outside of virtualbox.
Argh. Ignore comment 7. The vboxsf group is used in a vbox guest for accessing shared folders. I have it my system as it was installed from a live iso which is setup to work either as a vb guest or host for vb.
virtualbox-6.1.20-1.1.mga8 has been released today in 8/core/updates_testing. Can you confirm bug still present?
