Dell Inspiron 5100, 32-bit P4, Radeon RV200 graphics, Atheros-based wifi, 32-bit Xfce installs using the desktop kernel, on MGA7 and MGA8. No installation issues on either system. mga8-64, Plasma, nvidia-current: occasional kwin glitches. Only recently, april 5, this system, my workstation, was upgraded from mga7. Also i did not notice any issue testing x11 upgrade Today after kernel update, after a couple hours work, desktop and main menu stopped responding, noticed popup message about timeout, kwin restarted, then again. Switching to text terminal Ctrl-Alt-F2 displayed prompt for 2 seconds then black. Moved mouse and whole screen flashes black-white quickly. No text terminal works. Back using Ctrl-Alt-F1 to broken desktop, and entering "reboot" in an already open terminal worked. In journal this happens several times per hour, but i see no direct effect of it: kwin_x11[7786]: Could not create scene graph context for backend 'opengl' - check that plugins are installed correctly in /usr/lib64/qt5/plugins - i have no idea how to check that. I just see there is a lot of stuff in there. I do not remember seeing this before, during boot: kernel: resource sanity check: requesting [mem 0x000c0000-0x000fffff], which spans more than PCI Bus 0000:00 [mem 0x000d4000-0x000d7fff window] kernel: caller _nv000708rm+0x1af/0x200 [nvidia] mapping multiple BARs I also found journal say my /boot/EFI had dirty bit set. Long time since i checked so dont know when that happened. I fixed it with fsck. BOINC manager take unusually long time to come up but BOINC works and it also report CUDA and OpenCL working. Everything else seem OK, including Virtualbox running MSW7 with WindowsUpdate, video in Firefox, folder sharing, clipboard sharing, USB stick. Kernel: Kernel: 5.10.30-server-1.mga7 x86_64 10-Core Intel Core i9-7900X GeForce GTX 1080 Ti/PCIe/SSE2 : NVIDIA 460.67 Intel Ethernet I219-V driver: e1000e Rebooted without problems. NFS shares mounted automatically. Restored machine state on virtualbox - a 32-bit Mageia client. Shut down and booted a 64-bit client; long boot time because fstab was way out of date for NFS mounts. Timed out on those. Otherwise fine. Thunderbird works, and glmark2 once nvidia-current-devel was installed. vlc handles dvb T and T2 TV channels OK. Leaving this running.
AMD Phenom II X4 910, 8GB RAM, AMD HD 8490 graphics, Atheros wifi, 32-bit MGA7 Plasma system using the server kernel. No installation issues. Rebooted without problems. Ran Firefox, hardinfo, and a couple of others, no problems. Looks like the 32-bit server kernel is OK.
Same hardware as Comment 10, but with 64-bit Plasma installs, one MGA7, one MGA8. These systems have both also been switched to Network Manager, and have the rtl8192eu driver installed. They have been set up so that Network Manager can maintain connections to the internal PCI-e dual-band wifi device on the 5 GHz band and the rtl8192eu usb wifi device on the 2.4 GHz. band in simultaneously in parallel. No installation issues with either install. After rebooting, both installs established connection with the usb device, indicating that the kernel module had been built. Tried Firefox, VirtualBox, and VLC, all worked properly. OK for both installs on this hardware.
