The Mageia desktop icon still has a little bit old look.
My suggestion is to flatten the logo, and use only two colors.

Please look at the patch and tell what do you think about it.

This is about taste.

In my opinion our shaded logo goes better with most other logos of other projects icons I see, i.e FreeCAD, Digikam, FireFox, Slic3r, Nextcloud, KeePassXC...

You are right, the icon does look better with the shading. The other icon suggestions are with shading. The fourth suggestion is with updated colors for the background.
