Since pinta-1.7-3, the zoom function is broken. Case 1: - open an image larger than the screen resolution => the image is correctly displayed.,In the zoom panel, the value is less than 100%. - press "+" or "-" button => no action Case 2 (worse): - open an image whose size is far less than the screen resolution (i.e. that does not need to be redimentionned to be displayed) => the image is not visible in the main window ( whereas the thumnails are ) - in the "zoom" panel, where "100 %" is displayed, press + or - button => still no action - enter "100" => the image is back Only tested with the french version. When pinta is started with the command line "LANG=C pinta", there is no bug. In the "english" version, the zoom value is displayed "100%", whereas it is "100 %" in the french version. It seems a space character corrupts the zoom functionality.
Please test upcoming pinta-1.7-3.1.mga8 in Core/Updates_testing repo, thanks in advance!

Hello localhost ~ # urpmi pinta $MIRRORLIST: media/core/updates_testing/pinta-1.7-3.1.mga8.x86_64.rpm installation de pinta-1.7-3.1.mga8.x86_64.rpm depuis /var/cache/urpmi/rpms => Problem still there. This time, the space seems to have disappeared! Noew Both "100%" displayed between french and native langage, but the zoom function is still broken.
Could you report this bug upstream please? at https://bugs.launchpad.net/pinta
Thanks David on this quick update on this. Sadly, this is unsuccessful. @Reporter, can you try again after removing all pinta's related configuration and cache from your user directory and even better, from a new user?

Hello Tested from a new mga8 user (under XFCE). Problem still there. Attached 2 screen pictures, one with pinta launched with the system langage (here french) and the second with pinta launched with "LANG=C". Then creating a new 500x500 image, we can clearly notice that the canevas is not properly displayed in the french version. And the zoom function is broken

(In reply to David GEIGER from comment #3) > Could you report this bug upstream please? at > https://bugs.launchpad.net/pinta (In reply to Alain Choucroot from comment #5) Did you manage to report upstream this bug?
Seems that another user recently experienced the anomaly and reported it in 2021-03-30 https://bugs.launchpad.net/pinta/+bug/1921878 : "Cannot resize canvas that is always 1px large" . It should have been fixed in v1.7, but actually it is not. One of the comments refers to https://bugs.launchpad.net/pinta/+bug/1464855 : "The zoom tool does not work" . This thread was opened in 2015; the date of the last comment is 2020-10-14.

https://www.pinta-project.com/releases/1-7-1 release notes list the mention bug fixed. So packaging 1.7.1 for mga8 would fix this issue. 1.7.1 is latest in 1. series and is in cauldron. However, 1.7.1 is old now. * Upstream is already at 2.1 * - this should really go into cauldron at least! https://www.pinta-project.com/releases/ I could not find any note on backwards incompatibility in a quick search. Anyway a 2+ version is what users expect I suppose... Setting prio high as this is a rather popular application we should have at least in current release in Mageia 9, and i propose as update in mga8 too - skipping 1.7.1. 2. series is ported to GTK3.

Checked in new mga9: version 1.7.1 delivered, so fixes the zoom issue. but why not the more recent 2.1 version? Possible to have that in next updates?
