Description Kristoffer Grundström 2021-03-14 03:54:41 CET
Description of problem: I think there are many ways to change the appearence of the mouse cursor, but I'm looking for a graphical menu to do this.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 13.27

How reproducible: All the time.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open MCC.
2. Click on Hardware
3. Click on Setup mouse
4. There's no option in the mouse/trackpad setup to change the color of the cursor or it's size.

I believe this is better handled by the DE utilities.
i.e plasma settings -> Appearance, Workspace theme -> Pointer

Plasma: systemsettings5 (aka settings), Appearance section, select Cursors,
change color by selecting theme, and size at the bottom.

Gnome: Run the application Tweaks. Under Appearance, select Cursor to change
the theme to change the color. In Settings, under Accessibility, select Cursor
Size, then select the desired size.

Xfce: Settings Manager, Under Hardware section select Mouse and Touchpad,
select Theme, then select the theme with the desired color and change the
size of cursor as desired.

I use redglass theme, middle cursor size for gnome, which corresponds to
size 32 for plasma and xfce.

I haven't checked how to do this in the other 25 or so desktop environments
available in Mageia.

Assigning to the mageiatools team to consider as an enhancement request for
Mageia 9, as these are things a user who needs the larger size and a different
color will likely have difficulty finding out how to do it.

Adding atelier team to cc list with a recommendation to document how to change
the mouse cursor/size in the main desktop environments in an easier to find tips
and techniques for now.

Thanks for the suggestion Kristoffer.

In fact, such feature is currently, as Morgan said, better handled by any Desktop Environment Tools.

For Plasma, use systemsettings5 => Appearance => Cursors
For Cinnamon, use Cinnamon Menu => Tools => Themes
For Gnome, use Gnome Tweaks and Appearance tab
For XFCE, use Theme from Mouse and Touchpad under Hardware section of xfce4-settings-manager (Settings).

etc...

I would like to close this, but already assigned.
My 2 cents:
As such functionality is desktop-based and theme-based, that is handled by the desktop environment itself, doing this under MCC would reinvent the wheel for the many DE we ship, and risky if DE changes its implementation every release...

If the mageiatools team agrees it's not appropriate for mcc, please reassign
to atelier for the tips documentation.

In wiki:

We have a set of brief first steps pages for some desktops:

https://wiki.mageia.org/en/First_step_with_KDE
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/First_step_with_Gnome
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/First_step_with_Mate
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/First_step_with_Xfce
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/First_step_with_LXDE

Conveniently, Icons for the desktop settings are circled red.

I now added a section with that listing and note about the red circles at
https://wiki.mageia.org/en/Desktop_environments#Introduction_pages
