Hum. Seems reporter is using VLC under GNOME Wayland.
I see a segfault on nouveau_drv.so.


@Jose, Can you try under GNOME On X11 session?

To do so, logoff from current Gnome session. On GDM login screen, there is an icon in bottom right corner of the screen like a wheel. Click on it and select "Gnome on X11".

Try again playing a video file from VLC.

VLC is not wayland ready and use XWayland under GNOME on wayland session.

I am not sure that it is a problem in the wayland environment because as indicated above, vlc has been working correctly until the last kernel updates and vlc package. For example, the same video files work correctly with kernel 5.10.18 and vlc 3.0.12.1.1

The only thing that has changed are the latest updates, especially vlc

Hello again,
I just upgraded my Mageia 7 partition to the latest 5.10.20 kernel like the Mageia 8 partition and vlc works fine. Same computer, same Kernel and the only difference is the VLC version (vlc-3.0.12.1-1.mga7.tainted.x86_64 works and vlc-3.0.12.1-2.1.mga8.tainted.x86_64 does not work)

With the latest updates, I see that VLC works correctly again.
Could it have been the last kernel update? Because VLC is still the same version.

I see vlc-3.0.17.3-1.mga8 in testing (core and tainted).
Is it still the same problem ?

No reply from soom 2 years, and mga8 is EOL.
If still problems please open a fresh bug.

Note that mga9 have vlc 3.0.21 in testing repos.
