Description of problem: when my computer start with lightm, Xorg is out https://www.mageialinux-online.org/upload/img_20210210_092715.jpg Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): How reproducible: select light with drakedm ans start the computer I have do test (see in french, I don't speak english) : https://www.mageialinux-online.org/forum/topic-28409+lightdm-plante-apres-mise-a-jour.php With Ctrl-Alt-F2, I can select ssdm and restart with sddm and use my computer. After, I can select lightdm, it's good if I don't reboot, only if I restart only the dm (sytemctl stop ssdm and systemctl start lightdm). The Computer is a old DELL lattitude E6430s. It have a intel 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller.
Thank you for the report, and sorry for the angst. The screen photo certainly shows the problem. To see concisely your system details, please post the output of: $ inxi -MSGxx > Le 10/02/2021 ... Je viens de faire une mise à jour de ma cauldron ce matin. > Ce PC est rarement mis à jour. Alas, because you must have had a large number of updates. Just a few might have enabled a suspect to be identified. The situation you describe is: With lightdm configured, the corruption you show happens on *(re)boot*; but NOT if you have SDDM configured & logged in with, then do: systemctl stop ssdm systemctl start lightdm When you describe changing the display manager with drakdm (from a virtual console), that always requires a re-boot to take effect. Did you ever try, with lightdm as the DM, on booting to the garbled screen, doing Ctrl/Alt/Backsp/Backspc which re-starts X and re-launches the DM ? To see whether that changes the situation. We shall want, please, the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log from when you boot to the bad login screen with ligh tdm. You can save that from a virtual console: $ cp /var/log/Xorg.0.log <any_filename.txt> then when you have changed the DM with drakdm, and logged in normally, add that file as an attachment to this bug. (See above for that). [Vous pouvez écrire en français, nous pouvons le traduire ; mais pas trop !]

As I know we can't really write here in French, but the issue seems widespread. https://www.mageialinux-online.org/forum/topic-28440+migration-7-1-xfce-8.php This French user on the French forum also had issues with Lightdm after upgrading Mageia 7 to 8. But, as long as X server is autoconfigured at boot time, if lightdm fails, sddm should also failed. But it is possible that some scripts in lightdm do wrong things. Workaround: use sddm. But this is not very user-friendly and does not give a good out-of-the-box experience for average user. I would like to raise this as release blocker but I'm away from real computer for a while until tomorrow...

Exactly the same problem for me. Migration from 7.1 to 8 by replacing repositories et urpmi auto-update. Switch to SDDM as workaround

is the system running latest 5.10.16-1 kernel ?
It was good today after a update.
No, the system was running 5.10.14-desktop-1. After the update to 5.10.16-1, lightdm works fine. Thanks
Thank you all for testing, reporting, fixing :)
